AnswerIE7 login failure with Speedtouch 716V5 (WL) modem

    I have a problem with IE7 (Windows XP and Windows Vista).

    With IE6 and Firefox i can always login to the web interface of the Speedtouch 716V5 (WL) modem/router.
    With IE7 login to the modem is impossible when the password is not blank or when the user is not set as the Default user.
    The windows with a message "The server <name> requires a password" is renewed a few times and then the modem returns the message: HTTP/1.0 401 Authorization Required.

    With IE7 i can access the modem only when no password was set for the Default user in the modem (password is blank).

    Could this be a Speedtouch specific problem or is it an IE7 problem?

    I have the same problem since updating to IE7 from IE6 on xp, I could login perfectly before to my Speedtouch Router but now I can't login from IE7. I've had to resort to using Firefox to login to my router.

    Same problem. I have a Speedtouch wirless broadband router (BT Homehub). After installing IE7 it will not let me login as admin. Resorted to Opera to do so.

    IE7 logs you in as "Basic" with no priveleges. You have to edit the "Basic" user from "gui user" only to "admin" (through Opera or Firefox).

    I see nu GUI user option at all. Maybe this is different on various BIOS versions.

    We have the same problem with IE7 we can't login. With IE6 no problem at all.

    So there must be something strange going on with IE7 and passwords popup?

    Thank God! .... I thought it was just me ...

    I use a Speedtouch 546 - and I have the same problem - unable to login to the web interface.

    I can telnet in using the same user and password on the same computer.

    On a diffferent computer running ie6 I can login through the browser.

    Do Microsoft read these boards??  - is there somewhere we can highlight these problems in the hope of getting them fixed??

    You can install and run Firefox 2.0. With Firefox you can access your Speedtouch modem.
    Firefox 2.0, has just been released and has the same functionality (with maybe even better privacy and security), as IE7.
    Also with Firefox you do not need to hold the Shift button, to avoid empty spaces between the lines in this forum.

    Firefox 2.0 is worth to try it, especially when you own a Speedtouch modem.

    This also worked for me.

    You just have to activate the Telnet Client in the Control Panel/Programs and Features and then telnet your router.

    1) start

    2) run; and then type: cmd

    3) In dos prompt type: telnet speedtouch.lan

    4) Enter your eventual security credentials.

    5) Type following commands:

         administrator=> system config digestauth=disabled

         administrator=> saveall

         administrator=> exit

    That's all.

    By the way my router is a speedtouch 585

    2 ways to fix the problem

    1: telnet to ST585

    system config digestauth=disabled

    2:Update Firmware of ST585

    http://m8s-rates.com/speedtouch/routers/716v5WL/

    download the 6.2.F and update the firmware

    dafca's telnet workaround also solves the problem with 546 and 546T2 modems. Thanx.
