iTunes Corruption
An iTunes interrupted WMA conversion left my system unable to start iTunes, and I could no longer completely uninstall iTunes.
After deleting all traces of iTunes I could find, I could not re-install a working version of iTunes.
After re-installing the Operating System (Windows Xp SP2), sound is distorted and of poor quality, and iTunes software download can no longer be installed.
Help! What has happened and what is the solution?

- my iTunes is not working. it wont start up
- Did you ever find a solution to this. I'm having a similar problem in that my Outlook will not work as long as iTunes is installed. I attempt to uninstall iTunes but it is a laborious process. Once is is done, Outlook will work again, however, the moment I reinstall the problem occurs again. Also, iTunes will not even work except the very first time after it is installed. Once it has been shut down, it will not re-open. Can anyone help!!!
I'm having the same problem where I try to launch the exe file and it wont, I tried updating my quicktime as suggested along with a load of others listed on troublesoot page on apple.com. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Kelly,
I found these posts while looking for the solution to this problem. Seeing that no one had solved it, I decided to do so and post the results here.
I experienced having ITunes crash during a WMA conversion, while building the library on a machine that I just built. A Dell machine, using Windows XP Pro, SP-2, updated and with some software installed.
Here is what I learned:
No amount of cleaning I did would completely rid the machine of traces of I Tunes in an effort to uninstall and re-install. No matter what, i Tunes kept crashing.
I formatted the Hard drive, and did things different. After installing Windows XP Pro-SP2, before installing any other software or updates, I installed I tunes. Works perfect.
Next step is to start installing software, hotfixes, codecs for DVDs, etc. at some point, I expect i tunes will crash again, and then I will know what it is conflicting with.
Once I find the offender, I shall post the information here. At least at this point, you and the others on this thread will know how to get I Tunes running again. Start from scratch.

This solution makes a lot of sense, though it seems radical. Besides, I don't have enough time in my life to re-format my harddrive and reinstall all my programs and files.
This must be a very common we're facing. Has either microsoft or Apple had a comment? It happens that I can still access Itunes on an older computer. Otherwise, I'd simply stop using Itunes. I (would) think that Apple has an interest in getting this fixed. I wrote to them, but didn't get a response.

And now, boys and girls, here is the rest of the story...
Well, at this point, I just finished bringing back up the machine that I spoke of in the earlier post. Step one was re-install windows, step two was install I Tunes FIRST with no updates to windows applied yet. After that, I brought in the music library from the old machine, and then whilst holding my breath, installed one by one all of the software that was on it before when itunes crashed. the verdict? I tunes runs just fine.
Additionally, I installed IE 7 as well as Messenger Live 8.1. Then came WM Player 9 with a DVD codec, and still, I Tunes is fine. All I have left is F-Secure and possibly WM Player 11. At this point, I am actually trying to crash I Tunes so I can find out WHAT crashed it before.
From what I can tell, the order of the installation seems to be the key. Obscure, yes, but it wouldn't be the first time. I am beginning to suspect that the root cause may lie either in windows components (updates), add ons, or in I Tunes installing after the afore mentioned. So who will find it and fix it? I am thinking I Tunes will point at MS while MS points at I Tunes.
What else is new.
Oh yes. The above setup includes Outlook 2003, full MS Office 2003, etc. Absolutley no problems at this point. If I find the offending program, I shall post again.
Happy computing. Sorry the fix isn't easier. Personally, I don't think I Tunes is worth it, yet there are lots of pods out there and my lady likes the front end. Oh well.

We had a problem with our computer so a guy fixed it 9 (i think) and now i tried to put on i tunes but it didn't work,
so i tried to reinstall it but that didn't work either. It said that there was a problem with i tunes, and it said you could
send an error report so i did but it still doesn't work!
i would really appreciate it if whoever gets this can tell me what i can do to fix it! Thank you!

This is a place where people can post their problems and hope that someone else can offer solutions. No one is paid to be here or do this. So far, it would appear that this has been going on since August of last year, and I seem to be the only person who has found a solution that works.
i am an Information Technology Manager for a Non-profit company in nevada. I also do a lot of free lance computer work, so this sort of thing is not new to me.
i first showed up here when what everyone else is has experienced happened to me as well. Since no answers were offered, I set out to find the solution myself. What follows here is what i learned. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT I AM NOT AN AUTHORITY FOR APPLE OR MICROSOFT OR ANYONE ELSE. I DO NOT CLAIM TO "KNOW" WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. ALL I CAN OFFER IS WHAT I DID TO FIX IT AND IT WORKED FOR ME.
That having been said, here is what I learned.
1) Once I Tunes crashes on XP, no amount of uninstalling or folder deleting will completely remove it from your hard drive or your operating system.
2) Any re-installing of I Tunes will use remnants of the old installation and the result will be the same. no I Tunes.
3) Simply "re-installing" windows over the old installation will not work either. Doing such a repair or reinstallation leaves many old files, folders, and dll's intact and the end result is the same. no I Tunes.
4) I formatted my hard drive (Erased it completely)
5) i did a NEW installation of windows xp professional
6) before doing ANY OTHER installations or windows updates, I installed I Tunes and put back my music.
7) I did all of the windows updates.
8) I installed the rest of my software.
The end results are that I Tunes now works just fine on that machine.
Please understand that this might not be the only way to fix it, but it was the only way I could find that fixed it and believe me I tried every concievable thing I could before I resorted to this. You should also know that Apple does not support Windows installed software very well, and would pretty much rather you shifted to a MacIntosh Platform. Finally, at best, i Tunes is not very efficient Windows software, and I do not get a warm fuzzy feeling waiting everytime i Tunes tries to start up on my girlfriends computer.
I know that for most of you, the above solution is quite radical and may be more than you care to undertake. Again, there may be another way, but I have not found it, and i have been working on this problem for two weeks now and have dozens of computers at my disposal.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me ROCKYDEERINCK@SBCGLOBAL.NET Please see previous posts I have left above.

I have spent about 5 hours total trying to install, uninstall and i keep getting the same messages , must install quick time , blah la la. im going to give it a rest and go work now . come back when i cool my head. thanks for the info. ps. if i were apple ,,, id have someone on this . its clearly a problem....
Ladies and gentlemen listen up
There is a light....
Up until now, there has been no way to use Windows Media Player with an IPod; all IPod users had to use ITunes. NOT ANYMORE!
If you have had enough of dealing with this whole ITunes debacle, and are content with Windows Media Player (Personally, I prefer it.) then email me at ROCKYDEERINCK@SBCGLOBAL.NET and I will give you the magic for free.
NOTICE:::::: THE DRIVER FOR USING YOUR IPOD DEVICES WITH WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER IS CALLED DOPISP AND CAN BE OBTAINED AT WWW.MGTEK.COM\DOPISP
GOOD LUCK!@
Oh happy day, no more ITunes!

OK boys and girls, the last chapter.
ITunes is causing many folks difficulties and is not working in many Windows XP installations. The work required to correct the problem once it has occured is staggering for most computer users. MANY of you have been emailing me and asking for help, and so I decided to post the easiest solution here for one and all.
1) Get rid of ITunes. Go to your Control Panel, choose Add/Remove Programs, and remove ITunes.
2) You are not finished yet! Now go to C:\Program Files. You will find a folder there for ITunes EVEN AFTER YOU UNINSTALLED ITUNES. DELETE THIS FOLDER. (You may have to reboot your computer first.)
3) Go to www.mgtek.com/dopisp where you will find a cool little program called dopisp. Download it. It costs 15 bucks, but you can download it and try it for thirty days for free.
4) Before you INSTALL DOPISP, you want to CLOSE windows media player and plug your ipod into a USB port.
5) Install dopisp.
6) Open Windows Media Player and choosing SYNC you can now transfer music to and from your IPOD.
I hope this works for all you folks out there. There is still a fellow in England who is having problems with his ITunes and Windows Media Center Edition, and I am still working on that one.
If anyone has further problems after doing the above, if you still need further assistance, please email me at ROCKYDEERINCK@SBCGLOBAL.NET I will do my best to help you.
Finally: NO, i do not work for nor am I affiliated with MGTEK. They just happen to be the solution I found.
I'd love to hear from those of you whom this has helped, so I can get an idea as to if this was not worth the time I put in to it.
Cheers and happy music!

iPod without iTunes, so awesome! I can't thank you enough for finding this! I finally got a iPod 80 gig video the other day, I would have gotta a Zune instead if they had an 80 gig version out already :( anyway I install iTunes, sync my iPod, everything worked fine. shut down my comp, go to boot up the next day and all it does is reboot after the initial XP loading screen is done, I can't even get into safe mode. but at least now when I reinstall windows I don't have to put iTunes back on in order to get music and video onto my stupid iPod! I aggree with you, I prefer WMP, plus I don't get content from iTunes anyway, I only installed it to sync the iPod.
Thanks again man!
- Hmmm......itunes / Apple.........zune / microsoft Something fishy here! Itunes wont work at all anymore!!!
- I'm having a similar problem. I have Windows Vista, and one day QuickTime said that it had an update for iTunes, did I want to install it? I clicked yes, and ever since then, whenever I click on iTunes, it says, "iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration." This is a brand new Dell Inspiron 1501, and I'm stumped as to how to fix it. Any help here?
I ran into the same kind of problems with i-tunes when I tried to install the now-current version, 7.2 this morning. The install apparently failed and I was prompted to help the installed find the file i tunes.msi, which was no where to be found on my computer. The new install did not complete, and the old version was nonfunctional and I couldn't uninstall it, either, because the uninstaller wanted the same lost file.
Before setting out on some grand campaign to solve the problem, I tried something simple- I loaded a system restore point from two days ago. From that restore point, I -was- able to uninstall i-tunes. I re-installed the older version, 7.1, which I had saved, and now everything is back to normal.
So try going back to an earlier restore point (windows help should show you how to do it) and see if that works before you try anything more complicated.
Best of luck,
Jeremy

Hi I have exactly the same problem, please let me know if you have a working solution
i couldn't get this plug-in to install
This problem is so old (over a year for me) that the only conclusion I can reach is that Microsoft knows about the software incompatibility and doesn't wish to fix it. I've given up trying to use Itunes or Quicktime on my Windows XP SP2 computer. When I want to use these programs I have them installed on my (older) computer at work.
Shame on Bill Gates. I'm going to buy a Mac for my next computer.
Hi!
I went in to my C:\ and found all kind of Ituns so Where Do I start?
I cannot get red of my iTunes msi so?
I do not have an I pod but all kind of music previously purchased from iTUNES,I also have a problem with my dll files and does not letme download the SP2 pack do you have a suggestion?
Thank you very much.Pina.
- It sounds like a problem i saw a few months ago, after looking around for a bit all signs pointed to quicktime and it was somebody that had just installed the latest version of iTunes and the quicktime files became corrupt with the required installation. The result for some reason was that error of a problem with the audio device or configuration. Cant be sure but i think the solution then was to download the windows installer cleanup utility then to select Quicktime and iTunes, if that doesnt do it id say the system restore and uninstall is the best bet
Hi,
I dnt know how long ago this was posted or anything but I was just wondering if you could help me out with the windows media thing because I have been trying constantly to sort itunes out and it just isnt happening. Please help.
Naomi.
- I haven't found a solution, other than using an older computer at work that doesn't run on windows xp sp2. I don't do it often, so I haven't given Itunes much business lately. I cant believe that Microsoft is unaware of this problem, which must affect a huge number of people. I think my next computer is going to be a Mac.
When I had this problem with the new 7.0+ version of itunes, I disconnected my ipod from the computer and then went into my computer and deleted all my files from itunes. I didn't realize how many files were hidden in my computer, so it took a few minutes to extract some of the files and have them deleted. Then I went into itunes and searched for "itunes 6.0.5" (an older version) and when the search came up, I clicked on the box with the highlighted link right next to "file size: 36MB" and it began to download the old version.
After installation, I reconnected my ipod nano, and itunes read my files from the ipod to create a new library. (I suppose I probably didn't have to delete all my itunes files, but I just wanted to start with a new slate. Plus, I didn't lose any of my files since my ipod wasn't connected to my computer to begin with.)
This has worked for me and everything is fine. Hope this works for some of you too.
I had the same problem!
This has to do with Quicktime. Unistalle Itunes and Quicktime and re-install th ecomplete package.
That did the job for me!
Rob
- Apparenlty, I not the only one having problems with iTunes upgrade along with Quicktime install.
Hi, I've been experiencing problems all of the sudden, with iTunes, with downloads that I've purchased (they'll continually say, they're "processing" for minutes at a time, just for one SINGLE 3 minute song, and never successfully finish the download, Oy!) ~ and was wondering, if anyone else has had this problem and what y'all suggest? Should I uninstall iTunes and Quicktime, and re-install both, or can I just install iTunes by itself, and have that take care of the problem?
I honestly don't understand why I'm suddenly experiencing problems...one minute I was able to successfully, download, my song purchases...then just 10 minutes later, while I was still on iTunes, my downloads won't work. I have Windows XP as well.....wondering if iTunes is more compatible, with Windows Vista? I also recently installed a program called Spy Sweeper, but have had it for at least a couple weeks and didn't have problems until just the past couple days (with iTunes downloads). Thanks for any help/info!!
