XP Home, Vista Dual boot
Hello,
I have a windows XP home pc with:
•3 77GB Hard Drives (C: D: E:)
•2 X 3.40 GHZ Processor
•1GB RAM
I want to install vista with a dual boot without losing my XP Home. Windows XP is on C: with some programs installed on D:. I have not used E:.
What I want to know is how to install vista on E: so it will give me an option on startup to run XP or Vista.
Also if this is dangerous I want to know how to backup my two hard drives.
Please help
regards

You have variety of ways to install Windows Vista while keeping Windows XP without losing it:
WATCH OUT!! : YOU MUST CHOOSE CLEAN INSTALLATION (NOT UPGRAGE) WHILE DOING ONE OF THESE STEPS1- You can install Windows Vista on partition in which Windows Vista in (C:\) as upgrade [you should have free space more than 15 GB of free space for installation], while your Windows XP (Virtually) will be added to a folder named: Windows.old (while you're running Windows Vista) and it will be C:\Windows in Windows XP {I'm not sure if Program Files folder will be shared or not}.
2- You can install Windows Vista on E: as normal too.
After installing Windows Vista, you will get the new Boot OS Choice menu screen (Enhanced version than XP's one), so don't worry.
Good luck

No need to worry at all, for backup software, Windows Live OneCare has very cool Backup tool.
Try it now. ( Microsoft Windows Live OneCare 1.5 Beta )
Good luck

the Windows Vista Basic installation confirms that the files will be moved to a new folder named Windows.old. BUT it advises as well that the previous installation of Windows will NOT be usable again afterwards!
- Sorry to intrude, but this is the best looking forum for my question. I installed XP Pro over 2000 some time ago and got a dual boot system that I really didn't want. I've lived with it but I'd like to do away with it. 2000 is on C:\ and XP is on D:\. I want to get C:\ back to use for data only. Any way to do this without totally rebuilding?
Please reply to my email too. <poppops@tx.rr.com> Thanks
