after use of remote desktop
hello all,
When I use remote desktop from my work XP machine to my Home Vista machine...
it works fine, but when i come home to use the machine, it appears locked up
the monitor is off, and the mouse wont wake up the machine, the power button also
wont power off the machine.
I am forced to reset the machine...
any ideas?
VISTA RTM, ATI rtm drivers, Logitech setpoint drivers...

Go to Users in Control Panel, Disable UAC "User Access Control" and have a try on it. It should work fine, if it didn't work, enable it back.
Good luck

UAC isnt the issue here, its prob a hardware thing...
anyway... i do tun with UAC off, it was the 1st thing it did after installing Vista

- FWIW, I'm having the same problem, with very similar configuration. Could it be something with the ATI drivers?
Maybe, but i dont have any other video cards to try...
my coworker is running RTM with nvidia, does not have this issue...
gots other issues... but not post use of remote desktop
i have to try to log in again, after i discover im locked out

- We've had this problem sporadically (using RD from XP box to XP box). Never been able to resolve it either (even turning off all the sleep/hibernation settings hasn't helped.)
We'll try updating the graphics driver and see if that makes any difference. Didn't think about that as a possibility. (Being hacked -- that's certainly a possibility...) This is really annoying...
but i did this work around...
when i got home , ofcouse my pc wouldnt wake up from mouse...
so i logged on to it via remote desktop on another local pc, that woke it up
it showed the vista log inscreen... (its is nice that MS puts that im logged in via remote on the screen now)
anyway... logged in, and that ended the remote session.
At least i didnt have to hit RESET!
Please someone figure this sucker out...
Vista SP1 is gonna be a killer service pack :)

Hi, i have the same issue as well. Using Radeon 9550 AGP card but not convinced it's the graphics card. I'm connecting from XP Pro to Vista MSDN final release and even after logging out in remote desktop, the Vista Machine is unresponsive and i'm forced to restart. It's getting frustrating but hopefully if any of you have found a solution after this post you'll share. Appreciate it!
nothing yet, still hanging everyday!!!
i can log in all i want via remote desktop, but not at local console

im telling you know, Vista's SP1 is gonna be one killer service pack
Actually, this problem stopped, or the circumstances changed for me. For the first time, i returned to my workstation shortly after i terminaled in (while still connected).
I could see the login page and it said "User currently logged in from x" with x=my laptop name. I closed out of remote desktop from my laptop and was able to log in just fine on my workstation (the one running vista).
The ONLY thing different from any other time is that I returned to my Vista machine before the "Windows Energy" screensaver was set to come back on. Keep in mind this screen saver is a little resource hog. I'm betting a dime to a dollar this may be part of the problem. I've switched to a more basic screensaver and i'll see if i have the same issue. Will keep you posted.
GOOD NEWS!!!!!
I installed the NEW ATI drivers released 2 days ago!!!!
and 2 days in a row i can log in to local vista, after using remote desktop all day !
ME SO HAPPY NOW!
go try it!
