AnswerVISTA RDP via VPN

I am trying to connect from my office1 Windows XP computer thru a PPTP VPN to Vista Business using Remote Desktop in office2.  I can connect to a Windows XP computer in office2 from office1 and then remote desktop to the Vista computer from there.  While in office2 I can remote desktop to or from Vista from any device in office2 regardless of Workgroup name.  Vista can RDP to any computer in either office via IP address.  Office1 is 10.1.0.0 subnet 255.255.0.0 and office2 is 10.5.0.0 subnet 255.255.0.0.  Does anyone have any ideas how I can get Visa RDP to accept connections from outside it’s subnet?  I have tried forwarding the RDP protocol to the Vista IP address at the router and then tried it’s external address.  This works for XP and I get no reply from Vista.  Any ideas?

Thanks to all who might have looked at this.  I found that it was ‘Windows Live OneCare’ firewall settings.  FYI the default settings read:
“If enabled, allow Remote Desktop connections to this computer from:  Only computers on my local network (subnet)” I switched this to "all computers, including those on the internet." and have everything working correctly.

That is for outgoing RDP connections. I fixed mine by creating a new entry in Windows Live OneCare at Common Tasks, Change OneCare Settings, Firewall Tab, Advanced Settings..., Ports and protocols Tab with the following settings:

    • Name: Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
    • Protocol: TCP
    • Port Range: 3389 to 3389
    • For Connections: Both [local ports]
    • Scope: Internet

There is a patch and the patch permits several functions, first the salas xp patch permits 2 connections at the same time and the termserv patch permits as much as 200 connections at the same time with the windows xp and vista remote desktop server to access the server over the internet all that is needed is port fowarding in your router and a small client from no-ip to convert your dinamic public ip to a static dns name e.g. http://cursosweb.sytes.net and thats all.

Oh i almost forgot if you us the iis server builtin the windows os you can run your web server on port 80 and in your web page you could install the active x control that microsoft has made and does offer free of charge, so ther is no client that has to be installed in the clent machine all you need to do is open your internet explorer and from there you can make your connection.

NOTE: patching the xp os system is not legal and i dont recomend that anyone installs the patch! it is for learning purposes only and not a replacement of the windows terminal server system!!!!!!!
