    Same problem here.

    EventID 6, Kernel-Processor-Power, on dual Opteron 250HE, Vista x64.

Now the power options for my processor are completly disabled.

In the bios powerNow is enabled, ACPI is on version 2, al other options concerning acpi are also on.

Anybody any idea on how to fix this, or how to determine what option causes this problem, so it can be fixed.

Yesterday was the third time my computer shutdown, and i thought it was because of a power loss since I have UPS and my computer is attached to it. Since yesterday I started to worry about the data on my computer. so i started to do some investigation, and thats when I saw that message in the event viewer.

By the way I'm using Vista 32bit OS with Sp1 Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.06 HT,

Did anybody's computer restarted after you saw that message in the event viewer? I wish there was a solution for this, because it's very annoying

Guys, could it could be your motherboards-I have ASUS P4P800d. The sleep and standby mode havent been working under Vista. Some web research indicates it's an incompatibility issue from the mobo. However, clearly ASUS has stopped updating the firmware for this model since long time ago.  While in the past I had nothing in my event log acknowledging this power problem, after installation of sp1 I now have the same error message. So I'm guessing that it is referring to the P4P800d power problem i have had.

I disabled the sleep and hybernate features ever since I found they were not working under Vista (ultimate 32). It seems unless there is a firmware update from ASUS the problem problably will stay.  But I dont think ASUS will do that.

    Hope thats relevant.

    Same problem here
7 random shutdowns in one evening since SP1 and that same message in the event viewer.
Not much chance of an updated BIOS from Asrock I wouldn't have thought

Uninstalled sp1 but it leaves me a bit up in the air as without a BIOS update I won't be able to install any more Vista updates

My problem is a little different but the same, whenever I bring my computer out of standby is when it does the reboot, it will come out then two minutes later like clock work it will restart it self, I’ll try to uninstall SP1 and see what it does. PC stats are a Asus P5PE-VM mobo 2.2 GHz Dual Core 2GB Kingston Ram 600 W Power supply.

Some processor performance power management features have been disabled due to a known firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.

    I fixed the constant crashes.

Following advice elsewhere I uninstalled my Antivirus (Avast) and Zone Alarm then installed SP1 again. Then reinstalled the AV.

All is now well again. I still get the error message in the log

Some processor performance power management features have been disabled due to a known firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.

but it looks like it is unrelated to the crashes.

    Hope that helps somebody else

    Hey guys!
Hope you're fine, nice 2 meet you.

I get aleready pis**d off 'cuz I have the same problem and hanging about already 3 days on to fix it.
As far as I can see you're right by saying it's the SP1 'cuz everytime I googeld it everbody has Vista with SP1.

    My configuration:

    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
    Memory: 4 GB
    Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9
    Bios: F11 (2006/01/16 - last one)
    GPU: 9800 GTX
OS: Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1

I'm a quite happy 'cuz I finally found someone else who has this problem. I tried nearly everything but I can't fix it. (Another GPU, CPU, Memory, etc.)
I also reinstalled everything from the beginning WITHOUT any kind of security suites and I get this problem with and even without AV or firewall.

If anyone get that fixed, please tell.

We probably have to wait until a patch day -.-
But as far as I know is the coming patch day only for software like IE and some stuff for Bluetooth and DirectX.

I read on another forum that it could also be a driver problem with SATA or RAID Controller. So be sure you have the latest installed.
A guy told he it's 'cuz of his SATA was on AHCI. He installed "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" and get that problem fixed. Maybe it solves the problem for some guys here 'cuz some of you have Pentium.

Greetz and keep beeliving in patch days! -.-

     Proposed Answer

    Hi guys,

For all of you who are having problems with the powernow/speedstep ( or the Intel equ ) on windows vista.

since a few days i have started using CrystalCPUID.

it works under vista, and it is capable of scaling down the freq of your proc.

It is not as good as powernow/speedstep, but it is al whole lot better than vista's powercapabilities.

    http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalCPUID/index-e.html

If only it could run as a service :-), and used the full powernow options.

Can you try the below steps, we need to ruleout any device\driver issues.

    • Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced system Settings ->Advanced -> Settings -> Under "Write debugging information" -> Select "Small memory dump" .
    • Enable verifier by running the below from a command prompt

           verifier /all /flags 0xffb

    • Restart the system
    • Do all your normal work. If you get lucky and a bugcheck occurs, restart the system and collect the dump file (%SystemRoot%\*.DMP)
    • Send the file to dump3roses@gmail.com
    • If you can analyze the file with help of windbg; it'll point to the actual driver causing the crash

    verifier /reset

run from a command prompt will bring you back to your original state;i.e.disables verifier

ok. im select small memory dump(64kb) and after that  when im type : verifier /all /flags 0xffb
    in cmd.
    ok
now im wait for restart. if my computer reset im send you dmp file.but i have one question: if my computer again reset im will be back setting small memory dump(64kb) to kernel memory dump or not change it?

    after this command:

    verifier /all /flags 0xffb
im reset computer but my windows does not run and show me blue screen and after thet suddenly restart. im  use safemode to going in windows and in command prompt enter: verifier /reset.
now my windows run in normal mode and im send  your mail with DMP File.

    now ???

    charly  do this :

Reinstall your vista and after that do not install Sp1 ( if
KB940510 in the services pack).after that update your windows with all selection you want but don install KB940510 and Hide this update.(so you dont use of automatic update to see and found this update). if you know this update, is not in Services Pack , install sp1 because i dont know.

After that See resault and Post here whats happen to you.

Well. what I done is the following:

I unistalled the SP1,  and the first new was  the desapperance of the advice on the bottom of the screen saying: Window Vista Ultimate  evaluation  serial..... so this is been cancel unistalling the SP1, then I installed all the updated, every one separate from the others...without the incriminated KB949510 .. and I will void in future to install it... I will monitorize what will happen , crask or kernel problem or license will expire in day 0...... than I will be back here...

    be good to all

Yup. I wish , now, the PC, will carry on this way, seem to be the right, and I reply also to Microsoft Assistance for this error report, and I told them to don't point the problem to the Customr hardware's but make the patch on the right way due the SP1, have with the other patch,   so many bugs and doesn't have to be , the Customer, to solve the problem, but they have to put on the market, product without defects......
OK..let' see now how will go with these change we done..

    Hello all;

I too just had this problem arise, and I found it is not due to an update or SP1 in general. I was searching for an answer to a non-related problem and ran across a fix for that problem which was to go in to the System Configuration Utility, click on the Boot Tab, click on Advanced Options and check the Processor Box and the Memory Box and enter total amount of memory you have, close and restart. When I restarted, that error appeared in the Event Viewer, so went back and unchecked those 2 items, restarted and all is well.
Now I just have to find another fix for my original problem.

    Again ,
for Kernell processor errors, the only way to solve is this, was working for me and the others:
do not install Sp1  update on  your windows don't  install KB940510  and KB936330 Hide these update.(so you dont use  automatic update but  see before install them ).  this update, may  is not in Services Pack 1  , void these update and install separately the other update but no the SP1 in full. That's all.

    Hello!

Your proposal to upgrade the software shipped to developers.

And, hopefully, the last time, bringing to your attention: ASUS NOT supported by software.
If all your problems occur only on Vista - Set HR and checking of equipment!!
Any questions regarding the Parties on - the developer of this software! "it means Vista Home Premium!"

And so every time there is a complete restart laptop,
Also at the end of hibernation processor operates at a frequency-795, 92 Mhz,
only more frequency will rise only after the complete restart.
It is about the stepchild OS sticker on the laptop said to the contrary Designed for
    Windows XP, windows Vista Capable.
I have even more say, I Viste since mid-2007, the impression that
Note that the iron has been specially constructed under Vista, a more correct
Driver, a software such as Windows Media Center, to Mobile
    Theater of Cyberlink, etc ...
The temperature processor with the right care and regular cleaning to
    Vista 40-60 * C no more!
And this is AMD Turion MT-34!

The problem was, and before SP1, and after. Just before the installation of SP1, OS does not determine the existence of the problem, but protsessoor always worked without clocking, which is why taking a lot of power and because of this it is enlarged, but it is a consequence and cause of this - an absence. Inf, hotfix, and so c. it's the fault of ASUS, and if you want - good pretsendent and once again!
And what is translated "Windows Vista Capable" and what considerations placed this sticker on the front of a laptop? - To ensure that, from your words that warn of potential buyer that some of the laptop have been tested and can be controlled OS Vista?! - Do not absurd? that it will be another Note with Vista they changed?, so that your "explanation" does not stand the basic logic ...
That customer service support from Asusa one of the most nekudyshnyh - nothing new, but it was an official of the frank "tuftu" city, is unclear on who is targeted - are not news, sites and forums to spread it - laziness, and for what and so everybody knows everything.

BUT I am very PLEASE - IF YOU - incompetence, CAN, CTO of the parent SPECIALISTS, react and decide hanging in the air PROBLEMS IN THE SOFTWARE UPGRADES FOR, at least, models, which is available for sale As the label "DESIGN FOR WINDOWS XP , BUT WINOWS VISTA - CAPABLE ".

Many people, I think, will change the prevailing view
Basically, all manufacturers of notebooks support their models!
    Thank in advance.

I know I'm replying to a very old post, but I thought I'd mention this anyway: I was in the same situation with an ASUS P5GDC Deluxe mainboard.  I started finding event 6 in the event log after installing SP1 too, but I noticed an additional difference: standby is now working flawlessly, whereas it'd just result in BSOD's and other nightmares before SP1.

Ok... I  will try to be simple on this kernel problem most concerning ASUS motherboards.
First  at all, Vista system is working well, but if we void to install these two update:
KB940510  and KB936330, not included in SP1, then all the problems will desappear from the  system and this is valid for all the Vista version's,
Installing  SP1, make working better the system , but void these above update, than kernel error will finish for ever.
I hope to have been syntetic and clear.
In the meantime , you will receive all the update included in SP1, trough Windows update, and finally you will have to download only 65MB , ( is the rest of the SP and will be the SP1 at the end), and cut away the only two can cause the Kernel issue.
I had same problem, and now all working fine...
Microsoft is been alerted of these issue  and didn't fix yet th two udate, so just follow my post.

This is just a guess.. but I went looking at power management features in Vista after SP1. And found something interesting.

By Default, it was set to "balanced" which puts system to sleep after 20 min. When I went to Advanced settings i found "Processor power management" which sets max and min power states for CPU.

I believe it tries to lower CPU power to during idle state, and if your motherboard does not support this it will crash(the restarts, which i noticed only happen to me on idle).

I have set this setting to Performance which has CPU power at 100% for both max and min. I will run this for a few days and see if i get restarts. I think other people should try playing with this as well.

Here is a pic of the settings screen.

    Hi Kon-Aitor,

I think you may have a good point.

I have a ASRock motherboard (a division of ASUS) and my system freezes (no keyboard or mouse input) when I get the Kernel-Processor-Power Event 6 event log error message.

I uninstalled SP1 about two days ago, and everything is fine so far.
Without SP1, there is no "Processor power management" feature under the power management advanced settings - it does not exist.  So, it looks like this is definitely something added by SP1, or at the very least, one of the MS updates.

Please let me know how it goes with CPU power at 100% for both max and min.  If that works for you, then I'll retry SP1.

I still have the error, but have not had a crash/restart since.

    Take that as you will.

    Log Error: Kernel-Processor Power.

Try "Enable" for Intel SpeedStep in the Bios. I did and the Kernel-Processor Power red errors in the Event Log stopped. I have an Intel i7 940 in an EVGA X58 motherboard. The Intel SpeedStep adjusts clock speed and voltage based on application demand. Some overclockers may not like it ON, however.

You guys don't need to uninstall any update.

You need to make sure that C1E (enhanced halt state) and Speedstep, is supported on your motherboard  and on the CPU.

You problem (and an alternative solution) is detailed in here: http://www.pctreiber.net/thread.php?postid=69477#post69477

I figured out how to fix this thanks to a tip someone else here posted.  My pc would reboot when ever I ran the Performance rater when it got to the cpu test, when I came back into windows I had this error in my system log.

To fix it go to Control Panel > Power Options > Click "Change Plan Settings" > Click "Change Advanced Power Settings" > Select "Processor Power Management" > Select System Cooling Policy" > change setting from "active TO passive.

    That 100% fixed my problem.

I think it was caused by the fact my Motherboard controls all fans and cooling so when Windows tried to alter them it failed and crashed.

You could also probably fix this in some cases by turning off the power and cooling features on your Motherboard and letting Windows handle them.
    (though I personally wouldn't).
