Hey errut,
Please check your CMOS battery to ensure it doesn't require replacement
Also, please ensure your system time is correct and Re-arm you machine, which will reset the trusted time to the current system time and then install SP2. To rearm run “slmgr.vbs -rearm” from elevated command prompt. (Note that you can only do 3 rearms on the same Vista installation!)
If it still fails to install SP2, email me: zhali AT microsoft Dot com

Yep same happening here. It gets to stage 3 of 3 at 100% and then says "Service Pack Installation Failed" and begins to restore Vista to how it was previously.
Vista X64 + SP1
Same Problem I think its a .net issue.
I have run all the .net repiars that I know off. In the event log the same errors though

Charles, are you X64 aswell? I just finished installing it, trouble free, on a couple of other machines which are both X86. Im beggining to think its just a X64 problem.
Matt.
- Have the same issue here to 2 all but identical machines, different memory specs, and different SLI graphics card set ups. The 8800gtx 4gb went on no prob.. the 8gb GTX280 has failed 3+ times now.
Yes X64.
I used the .net cleanup tool then did a nice clean install of 3.51 still no luck
Also tried that after finding this posting and no joy here either.Hey errut,

- Thanks, it really worked!
Hi, I ran the rearm which got it working. Before the installation was taking about 45mins to get to stage 3 of 3 100% before reverting changes. This time it took under 10mins to get it installed successfully.
One question though, can I activate windows now? Also would I need to run 'rearm' again if I need to uninstall Vista SP2 BETA 1, to install Vista SP2 BETA 2?
Thanks, Matt.
Spot on with the re-arm, that did the trick nicely.
Many thanks.
Thank you!
It worked - and very fast too.

This rearm thing... was it because I reseted the time too often? That's because my notebook's akku is broken and if I disconnet it from the power cable I have to sync the time with the internet-time again.
- Tried recommendation solution on x64. Install failed at 100% and rolled back although the event log says it service pack installed Winver reports still SP-1
From Event log ID 9- Service Pack 2 installation succeeded.
Suggestions?
- re-arming worked for me as well on my Ultimate x86 installation. Why is re-arming requiring?
- I wonder too, I tried to install SP2 three times and every time it is going smooth and reasonably fast until at the stage 3 100% when it says "failed, reverting ...", the same error message as in the first post.
Apart from it being annoying to go through the whole time consuming process with no errors just to be grated with an unspecified error message at the end, it is also debatable if it's a good solution to use up one of totally three rearms. This is a CPP, by solving problems this way the rearms may be all used up in time for RTM ... and then there might be license-*** for that particular machine being used.
The only reasonable answer to the above is to stay away from this CPP on any machine used for anything meaningful. To play without license using the free 30 days in an VM-environment seems to be the way to go for this one, but pitiful one won't find any hardware-related bugs that way. - Why should I have to 'rearm' my system, when it is legitimate. I don't need a 30 day grace period !! And my system time is correct. My CMOS battery is good !
Any other suggestons / directions to help get SP2 onto my machine ? BTW, I also have that error code: 0xc004f013.
Justin,
Australia. - I have Vista Ultimate on my 32bit toshiba Laptop and was wondering if I can uninstall the service pack 2 without a lot of aggrivation.
rich - after rearming installation did perform well in about 15 mins.
Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 (now SP2)

I 3rd this.... that's really stupid.... will this be neccisary for the retail release?
LIVE & Zune - PittaMan - Thank You, Thank You. The -rearm command worked. I had tried 3 times to install SP2. Worked 1st time after the slmgr.vbs -rearm command.
Good link explaining how to get the elevated command prompt.
http://blogs.msdn.com/tims/archive/2006/11/02/windows-vista-secret-10-open-an-elevated-command-prompt-in-six-keystrokes.aspx
Thanks again for the help.
- re-arming my Vista BE (x64) worked for me.
Thanks! - I think this may be linked to the sp2 beta eval running out and the rc being treated as a reinstall of the beta. The rearm must extend the eval period and therefore allow the rc to be installed. testing this now.
I get this error aswell but im using Windows6.0-KB948465-X86, so not the x64 version.
And it says when its about done after like 45 minutes of installing:
De installatie van het servicepack is mislukt. De wijzigingen worden ongedaan gemaakt. Schakel de computer niet uit.
fout: 0xc004f013
meaning:
The installation of the servicepack failed. De changes are being undone. Please do not shut down your computer.Error: 0xc004f013
- Thanks heaps - the rearm worked fine for my Vista x86 SP2 install.
Edit. Oh, just noticed some writing which has appeared on lower right of screen which worries me a lot. It says "Windows Vista(TM) Evaluation Copy Build 6002".
Have I just converted my legit copy into an evaluation copy?
Unless I can get an answer soon I will have to restore the image I took before trying to install SP2. Then I will be back to SP1 again! - It's not specific to X64. I'm getting the same end-of-stage-3 "Service Pack did not install - Reverting Changes..." error when installing Server 2008 SP2 on an x86 machine.
How is it that this problem has not been solved in 6 months (or more) and MS still rolls out this SP2 via Windows Update as if its OK?
Will someone over there please wake up and fix this?!
Dave Kelly - Work pefectly !! Thank you!
The same thing in Belgium.
In section 3 at 100% : installation failure.
In Windows Update he mentions correctly installed ???
If you wait too long : complete re-installation of Windows needed ???
Had to you the image.- The -rearm trick did not work for me making it a pretty frustrating situation.
I've tried the SP via Windows Update twice and received the error both times. I've downloaded the service pack as a stand alone and received the error.
I'm beginning to wonder whether or not just to put the "best" Vista service pack on my machine - Windows 7.
- Heloo I have the same problem and nothing is working. I tried
Download the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista x64 (KB947821) package now.
and the rearm but i still get 0x800f082f Error
when I restart I see configuring updates and than step 3of3 0% and than login window
any suggestion?
thanks - daliborlorem,
Did you ever figure out your issue? I'm having the exact same problem. Thanks.
