Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release to Web (RTW) Delayed
Locked
In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience, we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to the web.
To help protect customers, we plan to put filtering in place shortly to prevent Windows Update from offering both service packs to systems running Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Once filtering is in place, we expect to release Windows XP SP3 to the web.
We are also testing a fix, and will make it available once that process is complete. Once they have installed the fix, Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers should be able to run both service packs.
Until then, we advise Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers to not install either service pack. Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers running Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista SP1 should contact Microsoft Customer Support Services for additional information.

I agree with you in every respect. My issue is that a date was set - 29 April - and then pulled, seemingly at the last minute. People now have an expectation of a firm date, since one was already given. I'm not saying that expectation is fair necessarily, but it is there.
You are absolutely right. The RMS issue was discovered after the release date April 29 was published.
I just checked the latest releases at Download Center, and yes, believe it or not, it shows SP3! In three flavors:

I agree. Enough of the "enough is enough already" threads. Have you an inability to read the 800 other threads asking the same question?SurfaceUnits wrote: I agree. Enough of the "enough is enough already" threads. Have you an inability to read the 800 other threads asking the same question?
it´s because people like you that big companies like microsoft do all that they want and get away with it!
imagine if no one complained...
me and and the OP are not just complaining but we are looking after ours and your rights so STFU if you have nothing constructive to say.
Microsoft will release SP3 to web when they are ready. That's all anyone can say. I have no 'rights' as such to SP3. I'm grateful that MS are going to provide it free of charge so as to maintain XP as a working solid OS.
If you have a fully patched XP, please be patient. SP3 will come when it comes. If you don't have a fully patched XP. then visit Microsoft Update and get it patched.
Until then, chill, enjoy the sunshire (at least here in the UK), and enjoy life. SP3 will be here asap.
- Thank you for a straight and honest answer to the person that said these threads are not constructive if it wasn't for people like me and others then sp3 would not get here.sometimes it takes complaining to get somewhere.

about the other post where it´s said that we dont "have the right" to sp3, i disagree, the fact that one´s product has guaranteed support its a factor that influences you to buy such produt,if you dont get it then you have been fooled, as so, we do have the right to this SP3, and i can say more , it´s already too late as it is, sp3 should be out for a long time now.
- imagine if all anyone ever did was complain, like you. You'll need more than your ovaries to shut me up.

did you read this?

This tells you exactly why the release has been delayed. MS is trying not to release garbage. That should be more important than a early release which ruins some customers' critical systems, shouldn't it?
SP3 will be available once a hotfix for the Dynamics RMS issue is released. According to MS, that will be "very soon". - I'd rather wait 6 more months for a rocksolid and bugless sp3.
So ms, please take your time ang build this great sp3. - Yes, correct all the bugs please.
I have installed SP3 build 5512 over my SP2 system and after the reboot I´ve lost connection with my Kodak C875 and my Alcatel OT-C701 cell phone.....programs like Alcatel PC Suite or Kodak Easyshare suddenly lost contact with those USB devices.
After doing a rollback to SP2 (uninstalling SP3) they start working again
I´ve tried to install from scratch XP Pro SP2 again and did the same test 3 times with the same results in each case.
I apologize for my poor english

SP3 will be available once a hotfix for the Dynamics RMS issue is released. According to MS, that will be "very soon".offcourse i read that, what we are complaining about is the lack of feedback from the developers to say something about what´s taking so long.
after all the sp3 was finished wasn´t it? and since the dynamics RMS only affects a small percentage of customers i fail to understand what is happening to be taking so long to re -release it properly, and if there is a bigger problem than that why nothing is said to the public.
lots of people are having issues with the unreleased sp3 maybe because they are not doing clean installs or using versions other than the final one of the pack.
i too prefer a bug free sp3 but from what i understood the sp3 is ready since the 29th april and even if it takes another half year to release it it ´s not going to change ,they are working only on the fix to the RMS thing,so what´s the point in waiting longer for it if you´re not a RMS customer?
do you really believe they are working on the issues with the sp3 that pop up in this forum like rabbits?
if they are a few words would be a nice touch, that´s what the forum is all about isn´t it? INFORMATION
doerguen wrote: I'd rather wait 6 more months for a rocksolid and bugless sp3.
Ok. People who are asking for SP3 aren't actually complaining. We just want to know EXACTLY when it's going to be released. I think we deserve the right to know that kind of information. If it's going to be in 6 months or 6 years - GREAT. We are ready to wait for it as many days as it will take MS to realease "bugless sp3". That's not the problem. The problem is that XP user's are completely uninformed. I hate when they say "soon" or "mid 08". I don't know about you, but "soon" means 2 minutes for me. A whole week has passed since 29th of april. That's too long - and we still dont have a clue about when it's going to be released. Just give us the EXACT and ACCURATE DATE. We don't want lie's and unprofessional delays.
Thanks.as this thread has been moved and merged with another that was a sticky informing about the delay that also stopped beeing a sticky i hope that what another user said in another thread its close to the truth and we will see SP3 be released somewhere today along the day.
sorry if this looks confusing
what the other user said was that such releases always occur on tuesdays, why it´s like these its something that beats me! just hope that its true, some words from the mods would have been a nice gesture though...
NaZz68 wrote: The problem is that XP user's are completely uninformed. That's the real issue here. Accurate and prompt information is the key to good customer support. As it happens, I'm just a home user and the SP3 release isn't time sensitive for me. However, professionals who are under pressure are not helped by the lack of release information. I can only deduce that Microsoft doesn't value good communication to it's user base. I also think that failings like this will not endear users to go to Vista, if that is what Microsoft want us to do.
- I doubt that we can expect the RTW today just because it's Tuesday. But what we can expect is a soon release of SP3 once the following link points to a downloadable hotfix for the Dynamics RMS issue:
http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/rms/using/articles/windowsservicepackissue.mspx
Now, Steve, as you said, "accurate and prompt information is the key to good customer support." The statement "will be released soon" is more accurate than a deadline which is postponed over and over. Remember that the original release date was "Q2, 2008". Remember also that the above hotfix needs to be tested thoroughly as well, since its reliability is absolutely critical for some systems. Most programmers will tell you that it is impossible to specify in exact number of days (or even weeks) the amount of time needed to build and test a bugfix for a complex piece of software such as an operating system. - "Ok, we made a mistake by releasing SP3 so soon without thoroughly testing it. We are now in the process of refurbishing SP3 and it will be called SP3a. So, people, please be patient. It will be ready in 3 months."
How I wish microsoft will reply to us in this manner or better. Christian,
I agree with you in every respect. My issue is that a date was set - 29 April - and then pulled, seemingly at the last minute. People now have an expectation of a firm date, since one was already given. I'm not saying that expectation is fair necessarily, but it is there.
that´s all ok but it only brings up the fact that the only problem they have (at lest that we know) is to make bug free to the people that will use the RMS sistem.
everybody knows this represents a minority of the people who want this pack.
why not set up some kind of link so we could already download the normal way?
this makes me think that the RMS thing is not , and maybe wasn´t at all ,the real problem that made them stepback with the launch.
the amount of people having issues with the sp3 instalation even when they have the supposed final build (5512) also makes me think that way.
lack of proper comunication generates speculation...
- I would expect it is released today or very soon if not today becuase the dynamics fix has been released and the release notes for XP SP3 have been updated and have now got todays date on them.

At last... It is released now!!! I've just downloaded mine. Nice to see that Microsoft informed us about it before it actually happened!
Microsoft has released XP SP3 via the windows updates and their download section. However, I tried to download it manually but the link is broken, so not sure what's going on, unless they are still updating the links. Here it is if you want to try.

Have a nice evening, everyone!seems like the tuesdays guy was right!!
now let´s see if they released the pt version...
- None of the three links above work for me. They all result in an HTTP 404 error - File or directory not found. Maybe they weren't ready for the onslaught of downloads.
do it through microsoft update , it takes a while but it works, just rebboted now and all is installed and working, no problems so far(nor diferences) , im scared...Where can I find .exe sp3 cause I want to slipstream it on new windows install disc?
NaZz68 wrote: Where can I find .exe sp3 cause I want to slipstream it on new windows install disc?
i think you cant, u gotta download the iso and then burn it or mount it to have acess to the exe file.
NaZz68 wrote: Where can I find .exe sp3 cause I want to slipstream it on new windows install disc?
The package for IT professionals and developers should be the one you are looking for.- Only thing I noticed with the updates, since I had the RTM before it got pulled, was that the pre-recall RTM is the same executable as the release I got yesterday. Ran it with DiffUtils and found it's the exact same, bit-for-bit.
Why couldn't Microsoft just release the service pack for home users? I'm sure the average Joe wouldn't know what "Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System" is.
