SkyDrive Microsoft Web App so unusably slow
-
Monday, September 19, 2011 3:08 PMI have a laptop, use Firefox 5, window 7 ultimate.
I am trying to edit a word document in Microsoft Word Web App on SkyDrive, but it is so slow that I simply can't use it with files that have more than 2 lines of text.
Selecting, deleting(text etc), writing is not smoothly and instantly displayed on the screen. Thus It creates a delay between the input and the output, which is .unbearable.
Not to mention that scrolling, or carrying out actions on the upper yields same slowness issues.
I have to figure out how to resolve this issue
I have not found any similar issues by other users, so please try to help me fix this!
My laptop has fine specification,so there must be a problem in SkyDrive, driver or flash.
firefox.exe *32 CPU spikes while using Word Web App:
1. When I click on the window to focus(when word web app is current tab), firefox.exe *32 CPU usage rises to 11%-13%!
2. Selecting text (even if only a single word) - firefox uses 25% CPU, sometimes even beyond that . Not to mention how horribly slow it gets...
Generally, everything I do with these apps is severely slow.
* I have not tried other Apps, but I am sure they will be as slow as Word.
I look forward to fixing this problem with your help.

Hi
Thank you for using Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Forums.
From your description, you can follow these Methods narrow down this issue.
1. Troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality. When you start the computer as usual, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or you may experience the original behavior.
2. Update Antivirus Software or Disable Antivirus Software
3. Change a Network connection
4. Create a new Windows profile. Create a user account Fix a corrupted user profile
5. Change another PC
Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for you, please feel free to let me know.
Best regards
William Zhou

Nothing helped,
It is still slow
I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit
I tested the same document on another PC with windows 7 and it worked.
I need further help. I have Intel HD Graphics as Integrated video chip.
The file I tried was 22 pages word document; on my computer it periodically reloaded the pages on scrolling, which was again horribly slow, while on the other computer it was fast and only loaded the data once for the whole time/session. I could then browse and scroll the pages with no problems.

It's not your machine. I have found SkyDrive to be shotty at best. Slow, missing photos, etc. I sent people photos and a lot of time they recieves errors when trying to view them, or the system stalls at loading. I really don't use this option at all since MS seems to just ignore people when they comment on it's unreliability.

I had this same issue.
I found that I had an issue with my current version of Word. I..:
1) Open Control Panel
2) Add / Remove Programs
3) Find Microsoft Office Word (or w/Businsee or w/Student, etc)
4) Click repair.
After it repaired itself, I open the document as before and it downloaded Word again.
To test the fix, close the document and then open it again.
Hope this works for you - GO RODEO !!!
