Answered Compatibility Pack problems with Windows 2000

Having different issues with many Windows 2000 client machines (all SP4) and the Compatibility Pack.

Office versions 2000, XP(2002) and 2003, all with latest SP's.

The Office XP i've managed to resolve by uninstalling and reinstalling Office, reapplying all updates and then installing the Compatibility Pack.

This has not resolved the problem with Office 2000 and XP.

From what I understand (researching online) versions 3 and 4 of the Compatibility Pack are not 100% compatible with Windows 2000, whereas version 1 and 2 are (which then require the Compatibility Pack Service Packs 1 & 2 to be installed).

Does anyone have the older versions of the Compatibilty Pack they could upload somewhere for me? I cannot find any mention of them anywhere on the Microsoft site.

    That's not the older version...

    Quick details

    Version: 4 Date published: 1/6/2010
    File name Size
    FileFormatConverters.exe 37.0 MB

The Compatibility Pack Service Packs are not compatible with Windows 2000.

Supported operating systems: Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Windows Vista, Windows XP Service Pack 2

I have a feeling that SP 1 & 2 have been integrated into the Compatibility Pack version 4, somehow making it incompatible with Windows 2000, hence why I need an older version for my client machines! :)

Where did you find these information?

    What I get is:

    Quick details

    Version: 4 Date published: 1/6/2010
    File name Size
    FileFormatConverters.exe 37.0 MB Download

    System requirements

Supported operating systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Vista Service Pack 1, Windows XP Service Pack 1, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008

Have you installed Service Pack 4 for your Windows 2000?

All Windows 2000 PC's have SP4. All Office XP (2002) are using SP3.

The system requirements I listed are for the Office Compatibility Pack SP 1 & 2, neither list Windows 2000.

With the latest version of the Office Compatibility Pack (version 4) you do not need SP 1 & 2 which hints that they are integrated into that version.

I have been able to source an older version of the Office Compatibility Pack! (props to TwoJ over at Siginet Software!)

As far as I can tell this is version 1 of the Compatibility Pack, making it compatible with Windows 2000, sharing it here for others.

I have tested this on 7 Windows 2000 PC's and it is working on all of them! :)
