I purchased Office for home use in September 2011. Now I am considering buying a netbook. Do I have to purchase a second copy of office in less than a year. I don't use it much, but would like to have it. Thanks.

Hi, it depends on which edition and channel you purchased.
It's less expensive to purchase a 1PC product via PKC channel, but that limits you to that 1PC, you can't even move Office to another PC if the first one dies.
Some information to explain:

If you purchased via an employment benefit such as HUP, you are only entitled to one copy.

If you purchased a PKC (a cardboard folder, without a DVD, where you basically redeem over the web), then this will be a single copy for a single machine.
new pc's usually come pre-loaded with a trial version, which reverts to "Starter" edition when the trial expires.
Starter edition may give you enough (it's a reduced set of functions).
You can always buy an upgrade later, for the netbook, if you wish.

Do the reduced set of functions come on a netbook? Do they include word and excel? I basically want this to be my kitchen netbook for recipes, grocery lists etc.
Thanks,
Julie

Yes, you can expect this, but should verify before you purchase the computer.
Office Starter includes Word and Excel, but each has reduced functions.
I'd expect it will be fine for what you've described.Don
