What is the best way to make our MOSS Intranet available on the Internet?

Background.
My organisation runs an internal MOSS intranet. Our contractors require access to news items and a small document library, read only access.
What is the best practice way to achieve this?
I have had some very technical solutions explained to me, apparently it isn't as simple as publishing MOSS with ISA and letting the contractors logon with AD accounts, because of some security risk? Please elaborate on this. I have got this working allready.
One solution was to build a front facing WSS server with forms based authentication, and publish the MOSS content to it. How hard is that to setup? Is there a step by step guide?

- If you have to public the SAME web application on intranet ed Internet, the best way is to extend Web Application (with also change Authentication Provider if you need) and publish this on internet on an SSL channel. Also use Form Based Authentication if contractors don't have AD Accounts. This way doesn't have security risk. There is no necessity of another WSS server.

- So basically I should extend our Intranet Application, which either updates or creates a new IIS website, and select SSL for security.
AD accounts are fine for authentication.
Do you recomend creating a new IIS website or just adding the SSL to the existing one?
