Answered In-place upgrade from Windows 2008 to 2008 R2 breaks Sharepoint 2010

I upgraded my Windows 2008 x64 standard server to Windows 2008 R2 standard. After the upgrade I wasn't able to get to the Sharepoint site or the Admin console. (I did an in-place upgrade from Sharepoint 2007 to 2010 six months ago.) I then installed the Windows Indentity Foundation and rebooted. I'm now able to access the SP 2010 admin console from the server, but still can't access the site. I get an error:

    Error
    An unexpected error has occurred.

    Hi ,

Firstly have you taken a backup of the farm before making any changes server 2008 Beta while upgrading breaks a lot of things .

If you have the backup then nothing like it restore the full farm .

If you dont have the backup it is a tedious job . First of all check if you are able to browse the site from the IIS .

check the Event viewer and record the errors .

I ended up restoring from a full backup I did just before the upgrade so I'm back to Win2008. It seems that building a new Win2008 R2 w/SQL 2008 R2 restoring a backup of just SP2010 might be the way to go.
