Unanswered Workflow in Sharepoint Designer

    Good day,

at the moment I am working on elaboration of a workflow for one of the lists on our internal website (this is my first experience). I have Windows 7 installed and Sharepoint Designer 2007. I have chosen "Automatically start when a new item is created" initiation. After I finilized the workflow with "Finish" button and created a new item on the list, the first step in my workflow worked (I received an e-mail), but when I fulfilled the conditions to trigger the second step, nothing happened. I tried different conditions, but still failed. I have noticed that Sharepoint Designer for some reason did not generate aspx file in my workflow (now it has xoml, xoml.rules and xoml.wfconfig.xml files), while it exists for other workflows created for our website. Can it be the problem that my Workflow stops after the very first step and does not go further? If yes, how can I resolve it?

    Many thanks in advance

    Hi,

When a workflow is created using SPD this file should have been created.

In your case I would suggest you to edit the workflow and save it again.

I tried this in my test environment by deleting the  xoml.wfconfig.xml file and it worked for me.

I hope this will help you out.

    Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Rahul Rashu, many thanks for your feedback.

But can you warrant that nothing happens to my workflow when I delete xoml.wfconfig.xml file? Is it possible to create a back-up somehow somewhere to ensure that the data is not lost? How exactly it worked in your case? You opened SPD, deleted  xoml.wfconfig.xml file in a specific workflow, and it triggered creation of aspx file? As for your first advice, I have edited and saved the workflow many times, it did not help.

I very much hope for your assistance.

    Regards,

    Yulia

    Hi,

I can not give you any kind of warranty but it worked for me.

However for you to be at a very safer place I would suggest you to create a new one.

    Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Ok, I will try. One more question please!

In my workflow I  do lookup for columns with employees' names when sending e-mails (ex. "Assigned to", "Project manager" etc). But when the e-mail is delivered to this person in looks like Dear RU\username, but in the column the format is Last name, First name. How can I deal with this problem?

    Thank you in advance,

    Yulia
