SharePoint Designer 2010 send an email to a single user selected or freeform in a list field

I'm new to workflows, and read some of the suggested answers but they don't quite seem to fit. (I'm using SP 2010 Server/Designer, no Infopath.)
I'm developing a standard list with 10 fields. One field, "Manager", will either be a People Picker selection or a freeform textbox (we haven't decided which input method to go yet.) Manager is a single, user.
If we use the people picker, the Manager's email will be pulled from AD. If the freeform textbox, the user will write in the Manager's email address.
Either way, I'd like to use the UI or SPD to send the list entry's results to the Manager upon submission.
If I had the time to learn workflows from page 1-100, I would, but I'm in a time crunch and need some hand holding on this one. More specific the steps the better ;)

This should be easy:
- You need to create a SharePoint list to persist your entries. Assume you have done this. If not, you
- You need to create SharePoint list workflow for your list in SharePoint designer In your SharePoint workflow, you need to use "Send an email" action to send emails to Manager
