Copy a list from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 site using web service

All,
How can I copy a custom list from a site in 2007 to another in 2010. The sites are in different farms. I tried to export as template and import but 2010 doesn't support it. The only option I can think of is Web Services.
Questions:
1. How to get the List columns of a List using web service?
2. Copying the list items with versions.
3. Make the web service dynamic so that user / admin can enter the url in a text box and I use the site to copy the data.
4. Can I create a list using web service?
kindly answer my questions.

You can use the Lists web services GetList method to get the fields for a list. You can then use the copy web service's GetItem to retrieve the item's fields and binary and then use the copy web service's CopyIntoItems method to copy the item into the destination list. You could also use the client object model instead of the CopyIntoItems method to put the document into SP2010.
