Answerwhat about Services for Netware for 2008 server ?

Most people here talk about migrating mainly windows domains. At this point, there is no Novell client available for 2008 servers which is a requirement of SFN.  Is there anything similar already built into 2008 that Im not seeing?

What Im trying to do is actually build a new domain then import the users from a netware domain. I was able to do this in 2000 and 2003 servers however the functionality doesnt seem to be there yet for 2008 ?

The biggest problem is this. You need to use the Netware vista client on server 2008. SFN is looking for client32. So the functinality is almost there, Microsoft just needs to put a service pack in place to accept the new client for vista ?

    Hi,

Unfortunately, “Client service for Netware” is no longer supported in Windows Server 2008. If you are just trying to sync user objects from eDirectory to AD, you can use the Novell DirXML product included with NetWare, also known as Identity Access Manager.

If you need to migrate files/directories from one server to the other and maintain rights then it gets ugly since the ACLs can come from eDirectory objects like containers, Groups, inherencies and  equivalencies.  For a full migration you need to use the Quest Software tools.

    I hope this helps.

You could create a domain that also contains a Windows Server 2003 DC as well as the 2008 DC to be able to use the SFN from there.  Then you could import to 2003 and either retire the 2003 DC or upgrade it to 2008 before upgrading the entire domain to 2008.

I realize this thread may be closed but Tim Cerling - are you aware of any issues I may experience by adding a Windows Server 2008 box into a mixed environment...???

We still use eDirectory for Authenitcation but we are running IdM for interoperability and we have a Windows Server 2003 AD environment. I just want to make sure the ADPREP and FORESTPREP that runs when DCPromo'ing a Windows Server 2008 server does not affect the 2003 AD schema and break the IdM.
