SQL Server Database Engine Permission Posters

Posters are available that list all the granular permissions of the SQL Server Database Engine and Windows Azure SQL Database. Select the pdf images below. You can display these on your computer, expanding or shrinking them to focus on specific areas. Use Control+F to search for a specific permission. You may print these posters for your personal use.

  • These are great, Does MS create these and mail them out?

  • Not at this time. They work really well on your Windows tablet though.

  • Now available on Windows 8 as part of the Server Posterpedia app available in the Windows 8 Store.

  • Okay, but some of us are going to be dealing with SS2005 and SS2008 for a while.  Are there posters for the older version available, and if not why not?  Though these might have a level of compatibility with those older versions, the older posters would be just as great, and probably more accurate, as well.

  • SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 have the same permissions. No, I don't have any plans to create a SQL Server 2005 version. SQL Server 2005 is lacking ALTER ANY SERVER AUDIT and ALTER ANY DATABASE AUDIT. And the red SQL Server 2008 R2 version mentions that the SERVER ROLE and AVAILABILITY GROUP permissions only apply starting with SQL Server 2012.

  • Great Information...Thanks for sharing

  • Unable to download for 2014? Am I missing something?

  • Click on the link above the poster you want. Not on the poster. If it's still not working, shoot me an e-mail (Rick.Byham@Microsoft.com).

  • Link is working now. Thanks Rick..

  • The link to the Azure SQL Database PDF leads to the PDW2012 PDF instead.
