The Developer Preview of HDInsight Services on Windows is installed with the Microsoft Web Platform Installer 4.0. The installation procedure has several steps.

In order to directly install, click here and allow the application to run (this will install WebPI if needed)
Go to the Microsoft Web Platform Installer 4.0 download page.
Click the Free Download button on this page. Click the Run button when prompted for the installation of wpilauncher.exe at the bottom of the page. Then click the Yes button in the User Account Control window that pops up to complete the installation. This installation will update any earlier version you might have used previously with the latest version of the installer, if that is necessary, automatically. The Web Platform Installer 4.0 will also open automatically.
Type Hadoop in the upper right hand search box and hit enter to find the Microsoft HDInsight for Windows Server Community Technology Preview item to install.
Click the Add button to select the Microsoft HDInsight for Windows Server Community Technology Preview item to install and then click the Install button.
The installation should have installed four icons on you desktop. Look on the desktop to confirm that they are there.
Double-click on the Hadoop Command Line icon on the desktop. It should open to the C:\Hadoop\hadoop-1.1.0-SNAPSHOT> prompt. Type cd .. to navigate to the Hadoop directory and type dir to see what it contains. It should have the items shown below.
Double-click on the Microsoft HDInsight Dashboard icon on the desktop and confirm that it opens the local Hadoop preview dashboard shown below. Click on the tiles to confirm that they are working. If there is a problem with the installation, go to the Programs and Features page in the Control Panel and check for two items: - Microsoft HDInsight Community Technology Preview - Hortonworks Data Platform 1.0.1 Developer Preview
Uninstall these items and repeat the installation procedure. The order of uninstall is important. Uninstall the Microsoft HDInsight Community Technology Preview first, and then the Hortonworks Data Platform 1.0.1 Developer Preview.
