When you do client bare metal restore, it may fail in the last page (page with restore progress). In the log file, you will find error message as below:

You can work around this issue using the following steps:

  1. When you get the failure dialog, click back to go back to the previous dialog.
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift for several seconds, wait for the command line window pops up
  3. Type diskmgmt.msc, and disk management window pops up.
  4. Then leave the disk management window opens and click next to go through the Bare Metal Restore wizard.

  • Thanks, this worked for me.  I was not able to restore multiple PC's from WHS2011 backups because of this issue.

I'm inserting the error from WHS restore wizard to help people find this solution.  The error in WHS was:

"An error prevented the Full System Restore Wizard from creating partition on the

computer that you want to restore."

  • I had the same problem and after spending 2 hours trawling the internet for the answer I finally came across this. could do with this being a little more obvious....

  • I echo herantd's post. The same happened to me with SBS 2011E.
