SCCM - ConfigMgr - System Center Configuration Manager

ConfigMgr  provides centralized control, inventory and reporting for any IT environment. With Configuration Manager IT Administrators can effectively manage application and OS deployments, create detailed hardware and software and software reports, use software metering that can provide insight about the usage of certain tool or application which may result in to saving a lot of cost to any IT organization.

With a single console one can Query Hardware and Software information, Deploy Operating Systems, patches, updates and applications, Remote control workstations and servers and implement network access control. This is one tool that every windows administrator should familiarize and try to master.

I have used ConfigMgr for:

  • Deploying Office 2007
  • Querying organization wide RAM information on all workstations and servers (which DIMMs have what amount of RAM and if there are empty DIMMs on each machine)
  • Query for PST files (Outlook archives) and/or a certain standalone application on all location disks
  • Software Metering
  • Remote Control and Wake on Lan
  • Query BIOS version of all workstations

Planning further usage:

  • OS Deployment
  • Windows Update
  • Utilizing Asset Intelligence
