The SQL Server 2012 courses are designed to enable database professionals to take full advantage of SQL Server 2012 and if they choose to validate their skills with certification. Over 100 industry professionals identified basic skills that they use and expected peers and employees to know regardless of final career path. This common set of knowledge is covered in our first three courses. Therefore, if someone wants to embark on the journey or quickly learn an aspect of SQL Server that they may not use currently use they would start here. For those who have not had formal training or hands on with SQL 2012, these courses cover the latest version of SQL Server so they can take advantage of the latest features while getting the fundamentals correct to save time correcting fundamental mistakes later. The later courses divide into some typical specialized career paths for database platform and business intelligence developer. Students may take an entire path or take what they need to round out skills in SQL Server 2012.

Course 40007: Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012: First Look Clinic
If you want a quick overview of SQL Server 2012, or are a technical decision maker, team lead, or in human resources this 1/2 course introduces you to SQL Server 2012.

Course 10774: Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012
This course is the foundation for all SQL Server-related disciplines; namely, Database Administration, Database Development and Business Intelligence. It is also appropriate entry for business analysts who may write SQL queries in other tools such as Excel, and those embarking on the jobs in the data steward career path. In short anyone who may read data from a database and can write ad-hoc queries against it. Later students will encapsulate the queries in database objects but at this stage in their knowledge would most likely not have those permissions in production environments. This course helps people prepare for exam 70-461.

Course 10775: Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
This course is designed to be the second in the series of basic skills. At this point student can retrieve (SELECT) data and has basic relational database concepts and tools experience. The next step is to understand the system more such understanding of the security model, working with the database maintenance such as backup and maintenance of indexes are covered. Students who will primarily maintain the database will find key knowledge here, but those learning the platform will benefit. Those with ANSI SQL knowledge wanting to understand the Microsoft SQL Server database management system will want to start here.  This course helps you prepare for the Exam 70-462.

Course 10776: Developing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
Students embark on implementing the database objects in this course. They now have the rights on the server to implement the objects using data definition language statements for optimal server code performance with stored procedures. Students are also taught key topics such as geospatial data and XML storage and retrieval common in Web databases. This course helps you prepare for the Exam 70-464.

Course 10777: Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
This course is about the movement of data. Professionals identified a key task was to move data into and out of their servers. This course covers ETL and Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Integration Services. It is the final course now that data may be retrieved, data objects such as views created, and now to move into other locations such as a data warehouse snowflake or star schema. It is still using the SQL Server relational engine so is everything up to the data warehouse before moving to analysis services. This course helps people prepare for the exam 70-463. It is the basis for feeding the data warehouse solution created in course 10778.

Course 10778: Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
Students are now ready to implement multi-dimensional models and use SQL Server Analysis service. They will support end user reporting solutions and SQL Server Reporting Service. Business analysts may be interested in portions of this course if their primary interest is reporting piece and do not intent to create the data warehouse. Excel Power Pivot is covered in this course. This course helps people prepare for exam 70-466.

Course 40008: Updating your Database Skills to Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012
This three day course is for SQL 2008 DBA and DBD to update their skills to SQL Server 2012. It is also for students who have the knowledge of SQL 2008 Course 6231 and Course 6232.

Course 40009: Updating your Business Intelligence Skills to Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012

This three day course is for SQL 2008 Business Intelligence professionals to update their skills to SQL 2012. It is for students who have the knowledge of SQL 2008 Course 6234, Course 6235, and Course 6236.

Exams:
Microsoft Learning exams are designed prove your knowledge and skills in designing, building, and maintaining the next wave of cloud-ready database and information solutions. The first three exams count toward the MCSA: SQL Server 2012 (461+462+463) certification. Then you choose your specialty either MCSE: Data Platform (464+465) or MCSE: Business Intelligence (466+467).
