Windows Mail to Outlook 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all -

So I just got a new computer with Windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I installed Outlook 2007, and it is ok. (Just ok)
I really liked Windows Mail and resist using Windows Live Mail as I like to have my files downloaded to my computer.

I was able to copy the contacts to the contacts folder on the windows 7 unit. But my Outlook does not see the contacts.

The folder will open from the libray (windows' explorer) but not in Outlook. In Windows' mail, in a new mail window, I can click on Tools, and Select receipient" and see my list. That does not happen in Outlook.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks SO much!

  • Hi Debbie,

First, Windows live mail does download your mail to your computer, (you may be confusing it with Live Hotmail). It functions just like Windows mail once the program is downloaded and installed.

To get contacts to outlook, export the Windows 7 contacts as a .csv file and then import them to Outlook.

    Hope this helps.

  • Actually, Windows Live Mail is just the new name for Windows Mail.  The program itself works identically and even looks the same except for the name-change.  It doesn't force you to use Live Hotmail service or sign up for an online account:  it works just like Windows Mail worked.

I think they really confused everyone with the name change :-)

  • Yes, thank you all so much! I will try to get my contacts through using the links sent above.

And I do believe that Microsoft did blow it with the name change.
