Microsoft Surface "select proper boot device" RRS feed

  • Hi,

    I'm getting the following message on my Microsoft Surface unit: 

    ‘Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in select boot device and press a key’.

    I have rebooted with no luck. I have also turned off the machine and rebooted but still no luck. Can anybody help?

    The unit has been running fine since January.

  • You can try to restore the unit to the factory state - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee692045.aspx but if the unit is not detecting the Hard drive as it appears you need to get the unit repaired. Please contact support for additional assistance at 866-425-8880

  • Thanks very much Chris, I will try to restore it to the factory state first. The number you gave me for support seems to be a US number, I'm based in Ireland, do you happen to know the support number for Ireland or Europe?
