AV engine stop responding, will the mails in the queue allow to pass? RRS feed

    HI,

One importatnt question which my boss has asked me.

If ONE Microsoft ForeFront Exchange AV product (e.g. Sophos) has stopped working, will the mails in the queue be allowed to pass through without scanning or email will stay in the queue until the AV engine is working engine?

    Thanks.

    regards,

    Marcus

  • This functionality is configurable using the Bias setting. This setting can be configured in the AntiVirus section of Forefront. When the Bias is set to "Maximum Certainty", messages are scanned with all of the selected engines. If one engine is not available, then messages will be queued until the engine is available to scan them.

When the Bias is set to "Favor Certainty", items are scanned with all available selected engines. So if one engine is not available, items will continue to be scanned with all remaining available engines.

  • There's a great detailed explanation of the bias settings on the new Forefront Server Security blog: http://blogs.technet.com/fss/archive/2007/04/26/scan-engine-bias-setting.aspx.  Check it out and see if that helps with any other bias questions you might have.
