  • WID = Windows Internal Database which is normally a default option when using WSUS and is just a simple database file which has to be manually maintained in terms of disaster recovery

A SQL Database for WSUS is normally recommended especially for disaster recovery, backups and overall maintenance. Also a best practice prerequisite when it comes to running cleanups and indexes.

The WID can be connected to using a SQL Express console.

If you have a license for SQL then use SQL, if not then perhaps WID is better
