Automatic update on iMac 2009 model - possible? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased Office Home & Student 2016 Mac way back in October 2016.

Until now I haven't tried to update the applications, the automatic update wasn't turned on and it never occurred to me, Now I would like to try to update but am worried that:

    1. My Macintosh may be too old:  iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) /  3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    2. So much time has passed I don't know if I am eligible to update or not.

  • Hi,

As far as I know, Office Home & Student 2016 for Mac is an earlier edition of Office 2016 for Mac available as a one-time purchase from a retail store. Office for Mac supports Apple’s three most recent versions of macOS.

According to the official article Update history for Office 2016 for Mac, Office 2016 for Mac will be supported with security updates and bug fixes, as needed, until October 13, 2020. The minimum supported macOS for Office 2016 for Mac is 10.10 (Yosemite).

Maybe you get more information from the thread: Office for Mac 2016.

Support for Office 2016 for Mac ends on October 13, 2020. If you haven't already begun to upgrade to a newer version, we recommend you start now. For more information, see End of support for Office 2016 for Mac

For more information about system requirements of newer versions of Office for Mac, read Microsoft OS requirements for Office 2019 for Mac and Microsoft 365 for Mac.

Hope the information was helpful. Anything unclear, feel free to post back to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Herb
