Surface unit screen goes gray/black RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

My company has 2 surface units. We are having problems with one of them. The unit will power up fine and work perfectly for a while. We can go into the shell, play games, and do whatever. Then, sometimes after half an hour up to four 4 hours later, the screen will go black/gray and nothing will be shown. The fans are still on, and the slave monitor that we hooked up to it still displays correctly. This leads me to believe that it has something to do with the lamp assembly. If I restart the Surface unit, it will start normally and everything will be good for a while. I didn't see any error messages in the event log. This problem occurs even if we are using chess, checkers, or other programs, not just ones that we have created. I've taken out the lamp and everything looks normal.

Has anyone else had this problem?

My company programs and rents these out for trade shows, so we can't have them going gray randomly.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

  • I forgot to mention before, the original lamp only has 390 hours on it.
