Excel stumbles on new iMac with Catalina

Question
-
I;m not sure if this is the right forum for my issue but it's the closest I can find.
I had an iMac (21.5") with Catalina 10.15.3 and Microsoft Office 2019 for Mac. I use Excel daily and it worked without issue. I just got a new iMac (27"), also with Catalina 10.15.3. I used the Migration assistant to transfer my files (via WiFi) to my new iMac. I had to re-activate MS Excel and that worked fine, however, I've had a few "burps" with Excel since that. The first time I opened a Workbook I use everyday, I got a message for permission (or something like that). I said "yes", it opened, and all was okay. A day or so later I opened the same file, did my edits (daily log type entry) and tried to close. I always do a Save As back to the same file name and click "Replace" when asked. That time Excel just kinda stalled out and wouldn't do anything. I had to force quit. I fired it up again and all seemed to be okay. This morning when I tried to open the same file via "Open recent", nothing happened and I ended up with the spinning color wheel. Finder stopped responding. I had to shut down and restart. Now everything's working fine again.
With my Windows version of MS Office (Office 2010) I can do a repair, at least I can under Windows 7, but I couldn't find any kind of repair function for the Mac version of Office. Is there one?
Has anyone else had issues like I describe? If so, any suggestions?

Hi John,
Based on your description, I suggest you use one of the methods in the article to troubleshoot Excel for Mac issue. These methods also apply to Excel 2019 for Mac, depending on your version of Mac OS.
According to the error message, it seems to be an issue related to permission. As the article mentions, you can use the Repair Disk Permissions feature to troubleshoot permissions problems in Mac OS X 10.2 or later versions. Note The Disk Utility program repairs only software that is installed by Apple. This utility also repairs folders, such as the Applications folder. However, this utility does not repair software that is in your home folder. For more information about the Repair Disk Permissions feature, see the following AppleCare article: About Disk Utility on Mac and Repair a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac.

If the issue persists, you can troubleshoot Office for Mac issues by completely uninstalling before you reinstall.
Any updates, feel free to post back to let us know.
Best Regards,
Herb

Herb Gu,
Thanks for the quick response. As I noted, the problem only started when I set up my new iMac so I don't expect any disk problems and in fact, just for fun I did run the disk utility - as expected, no problems.
Thanks for the reference article, I'm going to try resetting the Office preferences. Hopefully that will alleviate the issue but only time will tell as most of the time Excel behaves itself.
With regard to possibly uninstalling and re-installing Office, I was hoping I had a ".dmg" for Office 2019 in my downloads folder like a lot of other apps, but I guess it's more like a "click-to-run" so if I have to go that route I'll just sign in and download again.
If I still have issues after I try the above, I'll post back. If it seems to be working oksy after a week or two of daily use, I'll come back and give you the credit. We can all use the points, right?
John
