DaRT 10 "Error applying Dart Tools to the image mounted" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to create a DaRT 10 iso, I have the most recent Windows ADK, and I'm on a Windows 10 machine. If I exclude Disk Commander and File Restore from the tools portion of the setup the Microsoft DaRT Recovery Image Wizard finishes making the iso without any errors, but if I try to include Disk Commander and File Restore in the tools portion of the setup I get the following error.

    Generating DaRT image
    Installing and configuring DaRT tools...
The running command stopped because the preference variable "ErrorActionPreference" or common parameter is set to Stop: Error applying Dart Tools to the image mounted to: 'C:\Users\jereme\AppData\Local\Temp\DaRT_Mount_2016.03.16.19.11.49'. Package is not applicable: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\amd64\WinPE_OCs\WinPE-FMAPI.cab'..
    Cleaning up temporary files
    Temporary folder: C:\Users\jereme\AppData\Local\Temp\DaRT_Mount_2016.03.16.19.11.49
The clean-up has successfully been completed.

Any help or advice would be appreciated as I use Disk Commander quite a bit.

  • Same thing regardless what tools are selected...even happens when no tools are selected.  So disappointed this won't work right out of the box.

  • The only way I have managed to successfully get a recovery image through Dart is to use an older release of windows 10 as the 1511 release just has not worked for me.

  • In the same boat. I have the initial release of Windows 10 for the Windows source, running on a completely updated version of Windows 10 1607 with the 1607 ADK, and Dbg tools. No dice. It won't even work out of the box.

  • I dont have a solution to the problem, but I do have an interesting find on the problem.  As with everyone else, I am also having this issue.  When I attempt to create the DaRT image I am leaving everything default, so including all tools.  If I remove the tools I dont need, in this case, I just need the locksmith tool, the generation of the image is successfuly.  So, this would indicate, there is a certain tool that is resulting in the failure to generate the image.

I didnt have time to determine which tool was causing this, but I figured I would share this information.

  • Also having this problem with version 1507 and 1511.  Can someone from MS please let us know when this bug is going to be fixed?  Or at least tell us which version/build should work and where we can acquire that media?  Thanks.

    IN THE MEAN TIME

don't check disk commander or file restore.  with those unchecked you can make a image.

  • Thanks, leaving out disk commander and file restore works. I wonder if anyone is going to log a call to Microsoft for this. I tried using all the tools for 1803 and problem is still existing. I remember one of the WinPE downloads had the same problem for DaRT around the time of Windows 8 but it was fixed somewhere along the line. My last successful DaRT boot media was for Windows 10 1511, but that no longer works for versions later than 1703.
