Service Manager 2012 upgrade documentation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everybody,

I would perform an upgrade from SCSM 2010 to 2012, testing it in a lab before and found this description on technet:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh914226.aspx

Unfortunately there are some confusing steps in there. Maybe someone could help me with that unclear points:

    1. Install some additional SCSM 2010 management server in production

    2.–6.  Clear

    7. Stop the scsm 2010 services on the additional installed SCSM 2010 management server in production

    8.–11. Clear

    12. Restore the scsm 2010 production database on a SQL server installed in the lab (correct???)

    13. Prepare the restored production database on the sql server installed in the lab (think so)

    14. Now break down the communication on the additional installed SCSM 2010 management server in production with the sql database in the production (is that correct??)

    15. Start the scsm 2010 services on the additional installed SCSM 2010 management server in production

    16. Now it'll be very confusing:
„Verify that the lab environment works.” What exactly???? A scsm 2010 management server installed in the lab + a SQL Server installed in the lab or anything else???  Is there a test active directory useable in lab, independent of the production domain?
“Try to open the console on the Secondary Management server and see if you can connect to the console.” Start the console on the additional installed SCSM 2010 management server in production?? Connect to which console in which environment (production or lab)???
“Confirm that the Data Warehouse and Reporting do not appear.” In which environment???

    17. Confusion. Promote which “Secondary Management Server” in the lab -> the additional installed SCSM 2010 management server in production or a additional installed SCSM 2010 management server in the lab???
At the end of the description, there are following words: “Your secondary management server is now the primary management server for the management group.” Which second server (see before) is the primary for which management group???

    18.–26. Clear

Thanks in advance for your help,
    regards

    Andi
