  • Hi,

The error message is not clear indeed.

I would suggest to try with another project, another report, so you can know if the file is corrupted or if it is the template. Also try with a different scale (week, month): if it is a large project, assignment at day level might be to big for the Excel report.

    Hope this helps,

I am using MS Project 2016

    Solution 1.
    I used a different project.
I took the project from MS Project templates, the template is "Simple project plan" (I don’t know if there is such a template in the English version, but in the Russian version there is).
    I used all the reports.
Result: The error did not disappear. Reports are not built

    Solution 2.
The duration of the project from Solution-1 is 17 days.
    I tried different scales.
Result: The error did not disappear.

    Note 1.
    I opened the template - "adr8.xlt"
    C: \ Users \ admin \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Templates \ 1049 \ adr8.xlt
    I opened the chart.
I opened the "Connection Properties" chart.
Connection string Connection file: D: \ Documents and Settings \ PKMACCT \ My Documents \ Task Usage.cub

Summary: I do not have drive "D".

    Note 2.
I opened the project from "Solution-1" on a second computer in MSProject 2013.
    I created a report "adr8.xlt".
    Everything works.
On the second computer, drive "D" is.
    But!
After creating the report, I do not have the D: \ Documents and Settings \ PKMACCT \ My Documents \ Task Usage.cub file on drive "D"

    Question.
    1. Maybe the problem is that on the computer where MSProject 2016 is installed, there is no "D" drive?
    2. How to change the connection string for the report chart?

  • Hi,

Try to go to file/options/save, and check for the default saving path. It should point toward a valid folder. Maybe the visual reports use this path to store the odc cube file and if the path is not valid, your get this error.

You could also edit the path where the cube is saved clicking on "save data" while creating the visual report.

    Hope this helps,

    I get an error.
    Mistake
    "Unexpected error accessing the file.
    Try the following:
    1. the file is temporarily opened by another program: wait a bit, and then try again;
    2. There is already a file with the same name: save the file with a different name;
    3. Save to a read-only folder: save the file to another folder.
    "
    item 1. Which file?
I have only MSAccess, MSOneNote open.

item 2. I changed the name of the file.
    Result: the error remains.

item 3. I tried saving simply to drive "C".
    Result: the error remains.

    I click "Save Database".

The MSAccess file contains tables and queries. (see picture)
