Auto Run When Logon To Windows RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey guys,

Anyone know how to get Office Communicator to automatically start on user logon? Not using the GUI of course, cause I need to set this programatically within our environment...

I found a DWORD, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Communicator\AutoRunWhenLogonToWindows , but setting this value to 1 is not sufficient to make Communicator fire up when you log off and on again -- or in my case, I tried to configure it in C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\NTUSER.DAT by loading/unloading the registry hive, so that new users logging on would receive this setting.

Edit: I did some more digging and it seems that upon first (manual) launch, Office Communicator itself actually creates a REG_SZ entry, Communicator , with value C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Communicator\Communicator.exe in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run . Nothing fancy -- I guess I can create the same instead in C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\NTUSER.DAT unless anyone else has a nicer solution? Cheers.

  • Why not set a group policy?
