For Date fields, Setting default Year to 4 instead of 2 Characters? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Loading csv-files containing text values.  Some fields are dates in text format. When the "helpful" automatic "Change Type" step is added, the text dates are changed to type date.  They display as format mm/dd/yy.  When the source is viewed prior to the Change Step, the actual text date is formatted as mm/dd/ccyy, where cc is the century. It appears the actual date year value from the source is maintained but hidden by the formatting. The advance editor displays the field in "yy" format. This is misleading and can cause mistakes. Suggest that "Change Type" for date and date/time always display the date part as the actual number of characters in the source text. Can the default display for dates be set to 4-character years?

Answers

  • The way dates are displayed is determined by your Windows Region settings. What is the "Short date" format displayed in your "Regional format data" settings?
