Powerpivot 2012 invalid user name and password RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does anyone know how to resolve the error message "User name or password is invalid" for PowerPivot 2012?

The same user name and password for the machine DOES work on another machine, just not this machine.

The user name and password for another end-user DOES NOT work on this machine.

We have tried uninstalling and reinstalling three times without success.

  • Hi IT_BMC_Lady,

First of all, make sure that date/time settings in the problematic client are correct, including the time zone, daylight saving time adjustment, etc.

If that doesn't help, follow the steps below to remove any Office-related credentials stored:

    • Close all Office apps, documents and worksheets.
    • Go to Control Panel > (User Accounts) > Credential Manager.
    • Click on Windows Credentials tab.
    • Locate the credentials there that have MicrosoftOffice, Excel or PowerPivot in their names and expand them.
    • Click Remove from Vault or Remove for each of them.
    • Restart your computer.

    Regards,
    Burak V.

  • Hello Burak V.,

The time and time zone were correct.

However, there are no Windows Credentials.  Could this be because it is a work computer?

We checked the other two end-users who are working correctly and they were also missing the Windows Credentials.

    Other suggestions welcome.

    Sincerely,

    IT BMC Lady

Can you please double-check if Windows Credentials isn't really there in Credential Manager like seen in the screenshot below?

If that's the case, it might be hidden/disabled via GPO by your local IT department, and you'd need to contact the admins.

You can also update network adapters to their latest and compatible versions, and also test things out from a different network.
