  • NTVDM.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close

After windows updates were installed on June 13, 2012 i get this message on 2 windows xp sp2 machines. i am using a 16 bit data transfer program on a com port.  i have run anti virus and antispyware  and malware programs on both. i have run chkdsk /r on both. command.com runs on both.  if i uninstall the updates another program fails to run but i dont remember the error. is there anyone else with this problem? has anyone been able to find a fix or workaround?

  • I have also had this issue when attempting to run a DOS based program, it appears the update(s) KB2707511 & KB2709162 seem to solve the problem. Will update if problem re-surfaces.

  • Dear Aalbert5,

Just start PC on safe mode then, goto c:/windows and find  2 files winhelp.exe and winhlp32. just delete it and restart the system.

Hope this will help your and may be your problem solved.
