  • Question

  • This is happening OCCASIONALLY on boots of Win 7 Pro 64-bit on good machine.- once every few weeks?

So I searched in the registry for {995C996E-D918-4A8C-A302-45719A6F4EA7}, and this is what I got - pointing to "Shell Hardware Mixed Content Handler".  Any suggestions how to fix?

☺ In the office, Dell Optiplex 7040 with 8GB RAM, Win 7 Pro 64-bit and Office 2010
☻ At home, Dell Optiplex 7010 with 16GB RAM dual-booting Win 7 Pro 64-bit (now with Office 365 Home) and Win 10 Pro 64-bit
♥ Also still have Dell Optiplex 755 with 4GB RAM with Win XP Pro SP3 (which still gets updates with the POS hack) and Office 2003

  • DCOM can be enabled by cmd, type: services.msc  in msc, scroll to DCOM,double click, set to Auto Start

Also, any 64BIT OS has Virtual Memory settings that require adjustments, try:

  • DCOM Event ID 10010

    Description:

The server {AppGUID} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

    Usual Resolution:

Check the Check NTFS permissions (DCOM) .

With the AppGUID, find what application it is and try Re-registering exe's (DCOM)

Stop and try restarting the service.

Disable 3rd party services and startup items, go thru the process of elimination.

Check for an update from the software vendor.

Uncheck the "Allow Service to Interact with Desktop" within the RPC service and reboot.

Check the DCOM Check NTFS permissions (DCOM) specific to the application.

About Shell Hardware Mixed Content Handler

It is a COM handler that needs to run as "Interactive User", meaning run in a logged-on user's session (that's you ). The reason it needs to run in the context of a logged-on user is that it's actually the Autorun handler (enabling Autorun on my own Win7 box causes the same process to be spawned).

If you don't want to see it, go into the control panel and disable Autorun. Otherwise, it needs to run for Autorun to work properly.

    Regards
