Windows RT Untrusted SSL certificate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Scenario

Using a Microsoft Surface tablet running Win RT, and using the desktop IE.

    Problem

When visiting a website with a self-signed SSL cert or a cert issued by an unknown/untrusted CA, the usual message appears:

"There's  problem with this websites security certificate"
"The security certificate presented by this website is not secure"

However when you click 'Continue to this website', it does not continue but rather shows the very same page however this time w/o the option to 'Continue to this website' - the only option now being 'Click here to close this page'. I have thus far been unable to visit an SSL protected website unless that cert was issued by a trusted CA.

So how does one continue to a site with an untrusted cert?

Note: Adding the website's url to the 'Trusted Sites' or to 'Local Internet' does not resolve this.

  • Solved my problem - It was due to an update to the required minimum key length and the sites I was going to did not meet the new minimum of 1024. Running certutil with the requisite params did the trick. See here:
