One easy way to see if the Service Pack was applied is to press and hold the Windows key and, while you're holding it down, press the Pause|Break key.
This will display the System Properties page. On the "General" Tab under "System" it will display your Operating System and any Service Pack that has been applied.
Based on your post, however, it would "seem" your Service Pack installation was not successful.
