What does "Installation was not successful" mean? RRS feed

  • Question

I was trying to install SP1, but after about 20 minutes got the "Installation was not successful" error message.  I re-booted and things seem to be ok.  So, what does the error mean?  Do I have SP1 partially installed?  Not installed at all?  Should I go back to a restore point created prior to the attempt to install SP1?

  • One easy way to see if the Service Pack was applied is to press and hold the Windows key and, while you're holding it down, press the Pause|Break key.

This will display the System Properties page.  On the "General" Tab under "System" it will display your Operating System and any Service Pack that has been applied.

Based on your post, however, it would "seem" your Service Pack installation was not successful.
