Problem in turning ON BitLocker - TPM not found RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to enable BitLocker on a Windows 7 Ultimate C:\ drive. The problem is, when I go to the control panel>Bitlocker Drive Encryption> and tell it to turn on bitlocker for the C:\ drive; it shows the following problem

"A compatible Trusted Platform Module(TPM) Security Device must be present on this computer, but a TPM was not found. Please contact your system administrator to enable BitLocker."

. Does anyone know what is wrong here? What is TPM? How To make TPM available on my laptop? And, finally how to enable BitLocker?

    Thanking You

Answers

  • 1. Make sure TPM is turned ON and activated from BIOS.

    2. Once done, open tpm management console (start->run->tpm.msc) and check the state of TPM.

    3. If your machine does not have TPM, then you can still enable bitlocker using a startup key (usb stick) and encrypt the drives.
