Can't join SP1 machine to NT Domain RRS feed

  • Question

Any ideas why after applying Service Pack 1 - we're unable to join the machine to an NT domain?   Uninstall the service pack and it works fine (after manually adding the macine to server manager)?

  • Hi Nick,

    1. Microsoft does not support joining a Windows Vista-based client computer to a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domain.
    2. Could you provide an error message?

  • Hmm, I just built a VM with Vista sp1 and tried to join it to an NT domain and I get

The following occurred attempting to join the domain "domainname":

"Login failure: unknown user name or bad password."

Previous to sp1 I could open secpol.msc and change always use ntlmv2 to use LM or NTLM negotiate v2 if possible and by adding the computer in server manager first.  But no more apparently.

  • Hi, this was an workaround which has been published by MS without warranty. I don't know if they plan to publish an updated workaround since this is clearly unsupported.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940268/
