Will 2012 CAL works on Windows 2016 RD Licensing Server? RRS feed

  • Hi Experts,

    This project just dropped on our face and we need to prepare things fast.  One thing we need to confirm is this.  Will 2012 CAL works on Windows 2016 RD Licensing Server?  Client's new environment has a Windows 2016 RD Licensing Server and their old RD Licensing Server is a Windows 2012 with 2012 CALs on it.  If it works, we can migrate it this way, correct?  Please advise.

    0.which type of rds 2012 cal ,do you use on w2012 rd licenser server ?
      windows 2012 rds per user cal or windows 2012 rds per device cal ?(we can check it in RD licensing manager on w2012 rd licenser server ,like picture example using rds 2012 per user cal.

    yes,you are right.after you migrate windows server 2012 rds cal to Windows 2016 RD Licensing Server and remove w2012 RDS CALs from server 2012 RD License Server successfully,
    we can set below local policy on each rdsh servers
    Computer Configuration - Policies - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Remote Desktop Services - Remote Desktop Session Host - Licensing
    use the specified remote desktoop license servers  enable specify your rdls server to new w2016 RDLS server
    set the remote desktop licensing mode              enable per user or per device( This setting according to which type of rds 2012 cal we are using).
