Sometimes cannot click Refresh query RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

sometimes when I open (programmatically) an Excel file with Power Queries, some queries cannot be refreshed:

    • Right clicking on the linked Excel table has a gray "Refresh" button
    • "Refresh" button on "Table Design" ribbon is gray
    • "Refresh" button on "Query" ribbon is enabled but DOES NOTHING
    • "Refresh" button on "Queries & Connections" pane is enabled but DOES NOTHING

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

  • Hello,

currently 1908 (Build 11929.20300), but updates are regularly installed. I believe it was in previous versions as well.

  • Hi Jakub,

Do you see this behavior on any Excel workbook you open or only on specific ones? If the latter, could you please share such a workbook with us so that we can dig deeper?

    Thanks,

    David from Excel

  • Hi Jakub,

In addition - can you please share how exactly are you opening the file programmatically?

    Thank you,
    Ron.

  • Hi Jakub,

    A few asks:

    1. Can you please share exactly how are you opening the file programmatically?
    2. If possible - share one example workbook that it happened for (without personal data).
    3. An estimate as to how often does it happen (once every 10 file opens? every 100?)
    4. Your Product ID: can be found in Excel->File->Account->About Excel.
    5. Next time it happens for you - a Session ID, can be found in the same dialog as the above, just under the Product ID.

    Thanks,
    Ron.

  • Hello,

it hasn't happened since my last reply, so it may be solved with a recent update.

Before it happened like once a week - lets say 1 in 100 files.

I will post additional requested info on the next occurrence.

    Thank you
