Running Procmon in windowsServerCore docker container RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running our legacy application in a Windows docker container fails. Missing redistributable dlls have been tracked down using 'depends' but still loading some of our dlls fail while other succeed. Since ProcMon is one of those essential tools in our toolbox to troubleshoot this kind of problems I thought of trying to run it in the container. It looks like running it like this 'procmon64.exe /BackingFile procmonlog.pml /AcceptEula /quiet /minimized' launches the procmon application and  seems a logfile is being generated but it doesn't grow over 4MB. The process continues to show up in the TaskList but seems to have stalled cause it doesn't consume any CPU. Calling procmon64.exe /Terminate reduces the log file back to 1KB. Is there any way of making this work? Any alternative to using a vital tool like procmon64 for troubleshooting is a Windows docker container?

    Thanks for any feedback.
