Clustered Columnstore indexes on SQL Server 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi SQL Gurus,

We are trying to enable change tracking on a DW table with a Clustered Columnstore index on it. The version of SQL Server we have is:

    Microsoft SQL Server 2016 (SP2) (KB4052908) - 13.0.5026.0 (X64)

One of the columns in the table is a unique sequential number, with values is ascending order. So i added a non clustered primary key on this column, and then tried to enable change tracking on the table. But I got the error as below:

Msg 35353, Level 16, State 1, Line 53: Change Tracking cannot be enabled on a table with a clustered columnstore index.  Consider dropping clustered columnstore index 'CCI_empldet' on table 'empldetabc'

While reading up online, I saw that Microsoft does not support change tracking or CDC on any tables with Clustered Columnstore indexes on them. What do you guys suggest as a workaround to this issue? We need to implement delta replication on this table, so that the changes to the table can be pushed periodically to another on prem SQL Server / Cloud DB.

Need your expert advise and suggestions.

    Thanks a lot.
