Corel painter 11 and sequencer crash

    Question

  • When sequencing corel painter 11 it goes fine until screen "Configure applications".
    It is just before sequencer should show shortcuts and file associations.

    Faulting application sftsequencer.exe, version 4.5.1.15580, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x00012aeb.

    drwatson:
    The application, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Application Virtualization Sequencer\SFTSequencer.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 04/07/2009 @ 14:56:28.814 The exception generated was e06d7363 at address 7C812AEB (kernel32!RaiseException)

    Sequencing machine is windows xp sp3. Same thing happens with 4.5.0.xxx (mdop 2008 r2) version.

    Any ideas?

  • Hello,

    Just started troubleshooting this and got the same crash as you.
    Had a WinXP SP2 machine to sequence on...

    Here comes a recipe;
    1. Install to default installation dir
    2. Start software and activate. Change options to your likening
    3. Search the registry for this string;
    c:\PROGRA~1\Corel\CORELP~1\PAINTE~1.EXE,0
    Delete all keys and as "far up" as you can. I believe this is the icon-path, and the icon-key is a sub-key to...
    Painter and PainterFrameStack I believe the parent keys are named?

    4. Search for .frm extension in the registry and delete it

    After this I get an error 38 if I try to start the software when deploying it to other machines.

    I believe this relates to their licensing service and;
    Corel has stated that bought-in-store-cd-media doesn't need activation (not downloaded in any form, only bought cds - as in physical at the store)
    Corel has stated that the service is only needed when activating the software, so as long as that is done - you should be OK from a technical standpoint.

    As always you need to be compliant with any licensing agreement.

  • It worked! thank you very much for tip

    This is what i did:
    installed to Q-drive (i used q:\cp11\)
    started corel painter
    deleted registry keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PainterFile
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PainterFrameStack
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.frm
    started corel painter one more time

    And no crash during sequencing and no errors or nothing when used on other machines.

  • Is it a "fresh"  installation? If you search on this error, the result for most people was creating a new image.

  • virtual pc image with version 4.5.0 is fresh install and image with version 4.5.1 is upgrated over 4.5.0.

    With version 4.2 there is no problems, so i created package with 4.2 and opened/saved with 4.5.1.

    Anyway, i will create new image and try again with latest version.

  • Results:

    1) clean xp-sp3 install with all windows update fixes + sequencer 4.5.1 = crash
    2) clean xp-sp3 without any hotfixes + 4.5.1 = crash
    3) creating with version 4.2 + open/save with 4.5.1 = dll errors when starting application (msvcp71, msvcr71.dll and so on...)

  • Jankad,

    One thing i will suggest is that to have clean Windows machine without EVEN Sequencer installed. and every time you sequence any application, install sequencer prior to it. That way you will always have a clean machine and using different versions of Sequencer on the same machine will never cause any issue.

    Thanks
