SCCM 1706 to 1902 - Suggested upgrade path RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Just trying to clear the confusion on the suggested upgrade path from SCCM 1706. We intend to upgrade to 1902.

As per the Updates and Servicing section of the Console, I can only see 1806 as the highest version I can update to (In-console)

Which would mean that I would need to perform this upgrade in 2 phases. 1706 > 1806 > 1902

However as per the below article it informs that 1902 is also a Baseline version and it allows for a direct upgrade from SCCM 2012

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/servers/deploy/install/upgrade-to-configuration-manager#upgrade-to-version-1902

So just wanted to check on the possibility of performing a direct upgrade if I use the Baseline media. Please correct me if I am missing something.

No. There's no confusion. Baseline media is for new installs or upgrading from ConfigMgr 2012. In-place servicing of ConfigMgr CB must be done with in-console servicing. Thus you need to perform two upgrades which is one reason (among others) of why it's important to keep up with the latest version of ConfigMgr CB.

  • Hi,

As said by @@Jason Sandys, the Current Branch version upgrade is based on the Updates & Servicing feature, here is the supported version to upgrade directly to 1902:

    • SCCM CB 1802, 1806, or 1810

  • Hi,

To install SCCM 1902 as an update, we must have installed at least SCCM 1710, SCCM 1802,SCCM 1806 or SCCM 1810, so we can only perform this upgrade in 2 phase, 1706>1806>1902,
