Creating a user in SSRS with SQL Server Authentication RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

I am trying to create a user that can only view (not edit) reports in SSRS. I have two situations- the first is that I created a user on Windows using "local users and groups", then added that user in Management Studio allowing them to login with Windows Authentication. This worked when I tried to add the user in SSRS, and the user was added with ease. Now the other situation- I want to add a user in SSRS using SQL Server Authentication, which means I would not add the user in the Windows "local users and groups". So I added the user in Management Studio, but I continue to get the same error when I try to add the user in SSRS:

The user or group name '<Domain>\TrialAcct' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName)

In my original user that I added (Windows Authentication) it had the Domain name built in to the username, but the user that aims to use SQL Server Authentication does not. Does anyone know if it is possible to add a user in this way, and if so, how would I do it?

    Thank you guys,
