Project Online Task loads extremely slow. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We experience slowness on "Task" page. The page just keeps running and running. This happened once in a while and today it lasts 1 hr (2:19 pm to 3:19) Houston's time before it can go back to normal.

We have over 156 projects and some of the projects contain over 10K tasks. I'm extremely nervous as our next project will be even greater with more task.  Does anyone know if Project Pro can handle this great length of tasks?  Where is the problem here?  Is it from my company network connectivity or from the O365 clouds itself, what can I do to make page load faster.

This only happens to 1 page only "Task" all other pages on PWA load fine.

I have raised issue to MS and awaiting answer.  Appreciate if you can share your experience.

    Regards,

  • Ouch!  that is is a lot of details in a project schedule.  However project can handle it.

My question is are you using a custom enterprise task fields with calculations.  That can slow thing down quite a bit.

  • Hello,

Have you tried this from another location / device / browser? It's worth testing to rule that out but otherwise it will need Microsoft to review the logs / metrics in the backend.

  • Glad to hear confirmation that it can handle this great length. Yes we do use custom filter with formula to calculate the status of project (Behind scheduler, On Track, Not Completed and Completed).  We implemented this says 8 months ago or so that is what I suspected and raised that with Microsoft as well, the person said, not related (superficially comment though) as we haven't looked in the log just yet. Also, if it's because of the formula, it shouldn't be slow intermittently, it should be all the times. Don't you think?

  • No, we attempted to but the expected person was unavailable to test it. Here are the issue yesterday.

    1) 2:19 pm I was in a demo session showing Task page, pages were not loaded and keep on spinning for 4 minutes +.  I contacted MS.

    2) Before we could have the session with MS, 15 minutes had passed and everything were back to normal, I can access the page delegated to resources A, B, and C.

    A.  The task page keeps spinning when I came in as A.  His task never load except after more than 1/2 hr.

    B.  I could see her task right away

    C.  I could see his task right away.

Microsoft is now looking into a log as to why I couldn't access my task at 2:19 pm nor delegated to be A.  As I'm typing now, everything is back to normal.  My goal is to find the rootcause as to why I couldn't go to my Task or delegate to be an x resource and be able to see Task at a certain time.  Do I need more horsepower?  If yes, from where? Microsoft cloud or my company connectivity and also to find out info if anyone having the same issue and if you have solution for it.  Thanks.
