Off line integration of SP1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • With off line integration of SP1 into Windows 7, in Audit mode; after installing SP1, and before Generalizing and shutting down, isn’t it better to do disk defragment to have final .wim file smaller? James.

  • I assume that you're still in Audit mode after the installation. So run the Online version. The /Image is useful if you've already booted into the main Windows and want to remove the backup files before running ImageX to capture the new WIM.

  • WIM uses compression so the final size of the file will no be any smaller if you defragment the drive.

  • Run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /spsuperseded to remove the backup files after installing the Sp1. Now capture the new WIM. The WIM is now smaller.

  • I thought for off line integration I have to run:

    DISM.exe /Image:<path_to_offline_image> /Cleanup-Image /spsuperseded

to remove the backup files after installing the Sp1. I am wrong?

  • Online = the Windows is running (Audit or normal boot)

Offline = Windows from a different partition or mounted Install.wim
